That's a good shout - we hid a card & various other bits - including some spending money - that went inside gloves, socks etc.

This site is good for local questions.

https://www.englishforum.ch/

Switzerland is fairly civilised, but on the ski slopes there are a lot of foreigners, some of whom really don't know how to behave. They think being a good skier is just about going fast, not about control. Some of them also get hopelessly drunk. I saw one guy near the top of a red run who couldn't even stand up he was so drunk. They're a menace and cause accidents, so be careful.

It is expensive here, especially things that involve labour - eating out, drinking out, taxi's, etc. Davos is very expensive. A low wage in Switzerland is around £20 per hour, I think 3 times the UK minimum wage. It's a question of adapting, and avoiding things that are expensive in Switzerland but cheap in the UK. Some things are cheaper, e.g. some electronics, as VAT is < 8%.

It is quite a safe place. Crime is low. Women often walk home alone at night.

The food isn't great. I really miss the fish 'n chips and curries.

If she has nice employers I think she'll have a ball. Thumbs Up

Thank you David, yes she is working in a privately owned chalet as a sous chef under a 2 Michelin star'd head chef... The owner/family pay for all expenses, travel too & from Switzerland, accommodation, food, board/ski/boot hire, etc etc etc and she gets a very good wage too...

The owners/family have owned the chalet for 9yrs and most of the 12 staff there have been back year on year! They have spoken to Kat about home sickness etc and have measures in place...

Fingers crossed, she will love it Thumbs Up

Sounds ace Craig, I’m sure she will have a fabulous time, it is always a good sign when staff return year on year to the same employer.

It’s something I wish I had done while I was younger, but I can’t cook am useless at house work and hate getting up early...... so I might not have been best suited.

Take a drive down at the end of the season and stretch the fatties legs on the Autobahn......😁😁 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Try and avoid driving there on a Friday evening, Saturday morning, and driving back on a Sunday evening. There's lots of traffic then with everyone going to or coming back from the ski resorts.

And don't take part in this race, unless you don't mind losing a limb or two.

OK Stan I will re-Phrase, she is going to find herself in some potentially awkward situations and a bit of warning on how to avoid and extricate may save difficulties.
Also tell her to start the season cautiously, many seasonairs celebrate their arrival for the first few nights, brake a wrist before the end of week 1 and are home before Christmas.

Hmmmmmm, what was that about breaking her wrist Whistle Whistle Whistle

2 Bloody weeks and she's broke her right wrist! Banging Head

B*gger, sorry to hear that mate. At least Switzerland has good hospitals, especially for that sort of stuff so she'll get great care. Can she still work or is she off sick for a bit ?? Hope the wrist heals quickly and she can get back to work soon. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Well, she has been so very lucky Eugene... She has managed to fracture/break her arm/wrist (it’s still a little unclear) without any ongoing pain! So, this means she has managed to prove to her employers that she can still work! Shocked

She has a very low threshold for pain so, I know she’s not winging it!!!

She has to have the cast changed weekly for food hygiene reasons and the hospital has agreed to that and in two weeks time the staff have two weeks off! So she only needs to work for fourteen more days and she can keep her job! So, yes she’s well chuffed that she can stay!

Now all she needs to do is to learn how to fall correctly!!!

Unlucky, but also lucky it seems.

I suggest getting some paracetamol just in case it starts troubling her before a work shift.
