Hi,

The RR has developed a strange noise - only just audible but there and enough to make me wonder what it is. When pulling away I get a kind of fan 'whirring' noise coming from the gear stick - it only happens when I apply pressure to the accelerator (at tickover no noise at all).

It's not the gearbox (replaced last year) - could it be the air conditioning/fans in there? Anyone else had anything similar?

The fans are quite far forward - under the wipers. Mine has a slight hi-pitched whirr under breaking due to the fan bearing being slightly worn.

Have you tried turning the fan right off to see if it still does it?

When the PCV system is on its way out it can make a low howl sort of like a really low whistle. Have you changed your PCV hoses? 

Yes, replaced the PCV hoses last year - but with the 'genuine' BMW/LR ones from LR...I guess they could of broken down again. Will check though, cheers. Gavin

Not the whistling noise of the little cooling PC-fan on the bottom of the electronic black box ? It sounds like the whistle noise is inside the car, drivers footwell ..but if you get out of the car and press your ear against the black box --ít´s from here... XJC, RRV8, Series1 86 and 107% of real pleasure
