Feedback on Yeovil Landrover?

Anybody used Yeovil Landrover? Their showroom looks nice but looks like the workshop itself is somewhere else. Just wondered if anyone has used them. 2017 Range Rover Vogue V6 Diesel

Most of us avoid main dealer workshops. Craig at Cam Tech or T&S Norman are round your neck of woods. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover SVAutobiography 5.0 SC V8 Waitomo Grey

Had a bad experience there earlier in the year (March). This was their third time with the car for annual service and MOT. First two were normal and the Service desk staff were good as they always have been. This time they did a significant upsell on the car needing various brake and steering parts for the MOT and recommending doing stuff on both sides rather than just the one side causing probs. Got the bill up from around £500 initially forecast to £2k - all of which I went along with. I had asked them to look at the deplorable steps that operated less that 50% on the passenger side and about 95% on drivers side. The feedback was "the motors have seized" and the rectification quote was £725 per side to fix. I decided against. When I collected the car I found that the steps were totally non-operational and although the drivers side was parked, the passenger side was half deployed. I took the car back to them and asked that the steps be put back into the state they'd been in (ie mostly working) not totally dead. Although they took the car away back to their workshop it was returned with the message "there's nothing we can do, the motors are seized". Asking on here the immediate suggestion was that it was more likely that they were simply switched off. Feedback from Yeovil LR was "there is no way of switching them off". It was quickly confirmed here that of course they can be switched off and I was guided to the relevant bit it the manual telling us how to do it. So I went and switched them back on as per instructions and all came back to life just as they'd been before I'd taken the car in.

I was very annoyed indeed. I can't stand being lied to and when invited by their feedback service, provided an "honest" review. I mentioned that I would be seeking an independent engineers report on the work they'd done since if they'd lied about the steps how could I be sure about the other work they'd done. It was at this point that the service manager finally got interested and phoned me. He apologised about the story on the steps and "couldn't understand" why I'd been told they couldn't be switched on and off as obviously they do that all the time while servicing these cars. I asked about his pricing to fix the "seized" motors. He confirmed that £725 per side was the correct cost to replace the motors which would be over £400 each (plus labour plus VAT). When I explained that I had since bought an entire replacement kit (steps/motors/loom/etc) from Craddocks for just over £300 he said that wasn't possible as he couldn't buy in that that price. An odd position for him to take given that was what I'd already done. Obviously if I'd agreed the £725 per side they'd probably have done something to fix the steps, but its unlikely I'd have had a completely new set. The real issue though is that we are all at the mercy of what these garages choose to tell us as we put them in a position of trust. Once that trust is gone, its gone. I wont be returning. Mike - MPx
