Windscreen

Hi all

Just driving home and big stone has just cracked the windscreen on my autobiography l405.

What’s the best way to sort this? My previous experience of auto glass is awful, fitted wrong windscreen etc.

It’s 4 years old, am I allowed to request a Land Rover screen. Is it an acoustic screen too on the autobiography?

Can it be done on the roadside?

Grateful for any info or previous experiences

Thanks

Your insurance company are required to fit a genuine original screen, to restore your car to it's pre crash condition most don't...

Complain to the Insurance Ombudsmen and apparently you will win your case and they will have to fit a genuine one...

Good Luck... Thumbs Up Pete

I had a new windscreen in MY13.5.

I told the insurance it had to be genuine LR windscreen with the LR logo in the bottom corner.

I just had to wait 4 days for them to get the windscreen. Genuine windscreen was fitted with no issues.

They fitted at my place of work, 2 techs attended to fit. The job was spot on. ------------------------------------------

Make very sure the person fitting the new screen pays extra attention to the wire loom
coming from the rearview mirror area. I have a 'soft' error that generates an "SOS failure",
sometimes even calls SOS central without anything at hand..

Dealer says I induced it with fitting a dashcam ( like draping a cable on the ledge of the
roof lining would damage a cable..).

I told them I did that over a year ago, but they did fit a new windscreen after that,
and refitted the dashcam cable..

Now the dealer is dead silent.. I-pace First Edition Santorini & 2nd car Mazda MX-30 Advantage red/black

Thanks,
I have requested a Land Rover screen on the basis the car is still under warranty and the windscreen company have agreed that’s sensible but need the insurer to approve the cost.

Watch this space.

Thanks for all your answers

Make sure you either cover the tread plates or tell the fitters not to grind their boots all over them. When ours was fitted they must have stood on the tread plates as they were removing/ refitting the windscreen and they badly scored and scratched the tread plates…. That was also a genuine LR screen they were fitting.

Let the dealer replace the window !

Otherwise you got "who-done-it" is you get some strange defect afterwards !

I've learned my lessons with the D3.

Window started to leak about a year later as they used kit instead of a solid liner.. I-pace First Edition Santorini & 2nd car Mazda MX-30 Advantage red/black

Use a different branch of Autoglass. They are like chalk and cheese. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

He who dies with the most toys wins...
