Which L405 MY hits the sweet spot?

With L405 prices now firmly sub £30k for some cars as late as 2016 I wondered what people’s thoughts were on the best Model Year?

Based on my experience of owning three L494’s I personally think that the earlier models suffered from less faults and were better made. I also think that reliability was affected with the introduction of AdBlu systems.

Anyone have any thoughts regarding the L405?

Jim

Can't fault our 2014MY 3.0 TDv6. Into 3rd year of ownership, covered 26,000 miles in that time and it has been superb in every way. No infotainment issues. No other early model issues in our case. Diligent routine and preventative maintenance has been all that is necessary. 3.0 engine is superb in every way. Had 4.2SC and 4.4TDV8 in L322 guise prior to the L405 and would buy another 3.0 L405 again without hesitation.

Can’t fault our MY15 L405 so far, but we’re only 3 weeks into ownership Smile

Having said that we’ve come from a 3 year ownership of a MY15 D4 and that was the most reliable LR we’ve ever owned and only required routine servicing.

So maybe MY15 was a sweet spot Thumbs Up

I’ll revisit this thread in 3 years and see how it panned out Neutral

My 2017 MY has had two oil leak issues causing saturation of the wiring harness controlling the boost solenoid. In between the first and second repair there has been a modification which should mean it won’t happen again. Initially had an issue with a stuck (newly fitted) deployable tow bar. Apart from that it’s been brilliant. V8 is sublime and power is smooth and effortless. Mpg on a run is consistently over 35 but reduces to about 22 around town. Towing is about 20 but my caravan is 2500kg so similar to my D4. Infotainment is a huge step up from what went before.

2013 - my lower tailgate has stopped closing electrically - so I push it up manually.

Other than that, no problems at all and I’m over 100k miles - it’s been so good that’s I just can’t face changing it yet......

From a technical standpoint the 15MY> have the greatest revisions to the CAM BUS & LIN BUS systems... Have the revised suspension fitted from factory so, in theory they should be the best bucks spent sir Thumbs Up

And then MY17 has a much improved infotainment system, while retaining all of the positives of the early cars, like proper & lidded door bins, an analogue lower centre console, comfier head restraints in the AB, split view front screen, a CD/DVD player, side marker lamps and steering wheel controls with more tactile feedback.

Also September 15 onwards (MY16) will be Euro 6, for an element of future proofing.

I quite like the seat adjust controls high up and accessible on the door card rather than by feel on the seat.
Is that MY16 or 17 ?

. Cheers, Greg

Owned 3.0L from new.

Pinion seal replaced on warranty around 2 year old, now nearly 84K miles and still very happy. Very Happy
Around 30 in town and 40 on long journeys. Confused

Car is a 14M5 model (TPMS standard on this model going forward)
Bonus for me no adblue to worry about. Thumbs Up

As Stan says, but definitely MY 18 onwards.

A roughly equal number of steps back, as steps forward though.
