Swollen nuts

Anyone else got swollen wheel nuts?
I’ve just taken my front wheel off and the wheel brace didn’t fit the nuts. I had to use a 23mm socket on them. On closer inspection, the stainless steel covers appear to be bulging slightly at the sides and just enough to stop the wheel brace fitting them properly.. The wheel brace fits the other nuts on the rest of the wheels so I can only assume the nut(s)might be rusty underneath the covers and has forced them outwards at the sides.

Is this normal ?

Swollen nuts is just another advantage of being a Full Fat owner.
I bought a full set of new ones so that I can replace them one at a time when they swell.

Perfectly normal for the crappy OEM nuts.

Best binned along with the locking wheel nut and replaced before one splits and leaves you in the brown and sticky stuff. Current: FF Westminster money pit

You can get more of the same type off ebay for about £40 a set where people have taken them off a new vehicke to eg change colour etc. Look for "New take offs". They are "As new".
Dan at Duckworthparts probably also has plenty as they've always got new take wheels & tyres where owners have specified a wheel / tyre change Paul,

+1
I opted for the easy (not cheap solution) with solid marine grade polished stainless ones from www.wrington.co.uk/

Part Number: WN1415LRASPTPOL
(double check this number on web page as will not fit older than 06 Range Rovers)

It's a common side effect of the main dealers having us by the short and curlies.

I solved it by buying a full set of 20 solid nuts that were on eBay at roughly the same price.
They are a sort of galvanised finish which soon dulled to a silver colour which looks fine on silver wheels.
Unfortunately I can’t find the advert now to add a link.
I just remember they were advertised as alloy wheel nuts, but are actually steel nuts for alloy wheels.
But four years later they are as good as new.

Look at the pics closely and they have stainless caps... Why would you produce a stainless nut and then put a stainless cap on?

I wouldn't waste my time or money sir... Stainless nuts cost significantly more than standard nuts... Thumbs Up
