Should I reject my RR L405 or not

Hi All

I am new to the forum. I was forced to search for a forum as I have been having numerous issues with used RR L405, which I've only bought nearly four weeks ago and I really needed help from you experienced L405 owners/ ex-owners.

I found the vehicle online, it was up for sale in Yorkshire also its from JLR approved used garage. So I called the garage explained I am interested in this vehicle and expressed how I was going to buy the car, which was to part exchange the car I owned at that time. So we arranged a day where I took my car in for full inspection and also to shake hand on a deal with the car I wanted. Came to a deal, finance got approved and all the necessary paper works went underway, now I was told how bad are the reliability of these cars through people that I know, yet I decided to go get one as I've been a fan of these models ever since it came out.

I bought the 64 plate range rover vogue (black pack) on the 6th December 2019. The day i went to collect it, the Tyre pressure warning came up, so i took it back to them and they had to change the Tyre pressure sensors, there was also rattling noise, which they said was due to the tailgate misalignment, they eventually rectified it and got the car delivered to me on the 11th of December. Then on the 16th coolant level low warning came up, I took it to my local LR dealer, who filled it up for me. I also noticed dents/scratches to the roof-line close to the front windscreen, and I contacted the dealers I got the car from. They asked me to send them photos of the dent. 4 days later the warning came up again on the 20th of December. I contacted LR assistance, as local dealers could not get me in to check whether the coolant level drop was due to leakage. The mechanic said there was leakage. He also fully inspected the car. So after having the car for 9 days, we have identified the following issues:
•Cut/chip on front left tyre
•black plat trim under sills at front of both rear wheels
•infotainment system rebooting itself
•volume buttons changing radio station instead of turning volume up and down
•condensation on front and rear lights
•coolant liquid pipe leakage
•rattling noise when going over speed humps (which we had on the pick up date, and it is back again)
•scratch/dent on roofline just above the front windscreen (Bolton dealership has declined to work on it, as this happened prior to our purchase)
•black trim panel loose on rear end right side

The dealers who I brought the car from eventually took the car back on a recovery truck, as it was not drive-able. They said they will address all the issues. I am considering rejecting the car. as I barely drove the car, and its been in the garage more than on my drive. What do you guys suggest? have you had similar experiences? Also where do I stand in terms on paying my monthly as I barely drove since the collection date, i'd say I did no more than 50 miles on the car and went straight back to garage. I have lost confidence in all honesty in driving that vehicle, as I am worried about what error might pop up on the dashboard

With a LR Approved Used vehicle you do get a certain period in which you can hand it back. Unfortunately, I can't remember how long it is.

If you are not happy then hand it back and request a full refund. Either that or if they have another vehicle you like see if they will swap it.

Those don't seem that major and not really the sort of things that could lead to a future chain of events. If the dealer sorts all that out then maybe give it another chance? Or maybe pay for a detailed inspection by a 3rd party specialist?

I know how you feel though, it can affect your confidence in the car. I bought a used L322, within 4 weeks I've spent over £1,500 on it and started to lose faith. But when I list out the issues and what I spent, they're not an indication of a bad car, just normal parts wearing out and the odd inconvenience niggle (and £430 of that was my choice for preventative maintenance getting all the fluids changed) Latest thing is it needs a new lower arm (ball joint has failed) So I'm changing the other side at the same time, don't need to, but to me makes sense to have both as new and then get it all 4 wheel aligned.

If it was me, I'd consider when the deadline is for handing it back, maybe ask for an extension and give the car another chance.

Thanks Mark. I have been considering a 3rd party inspection after receiving the car. Anyway the main dealer rang me today and said the coolant level leak issue has been fixed and they are on to the next set of issues, which is outlined in the email I sent them. And they still have not gave me a rough date on when the car will be ready. So much for the 165-point check LR brags about prior to the collection of the car. Anyway I will update you all once I have more info.

DrRob you are correct. We pay premium for these machines, yet they are not capable of doing the least. Current

I'm pretty sure someone casting an experienced eye over a car for sale would pick up a fair number of issues........the problem is that any issues they see and highlight will cost the dealer money to resolve, thus eating into their margin.

It's a much safer bet for them to hope/assume that new buyers will feel so honoured that they've been allowed into the showrooms and been selected to own a Range Rover that they will not feel the need to darken their doorsteps again with complaints of shoddy workmanship from both the maker and the stealer!

BTW I don't think it's a good idea to stop your payments as it could weaken your case for rejection......even though everyone understands your frustration.
