Soft close is not working

One of the rear door's soft close is not working. If I close the door gentely such that it does not fully close, the door remains open unlike the other side that close by pulling themselves in. Now, if I then open the door I can hear the soft close motor make sound.

Is there any trick to it? And did I explain the issue well?

Thanks

I am now Watching this topic - soft close is my favourite feature, I think, and I don’t like the idea of it failing!

I have never noticed a sound of the motor operating when opening the door, I just say. But you are saying the ‘sound’ is normal like the other doors when opening. But when closing no sound and no soft close. Without you mentions this I would have thought either soft close motor, sensor, or a physical alignment issue. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... You should try getting your thumb caught in it while it’s closing! Shocked It took about 5 months for the nail to grow back! Embarassed

Oddly, I still like the feature Rolling Eyes

I shut the door with my right hind, while I was still taking my left hand out and the door just caught my thumb from the knuckle upwards; fortunately I carried on pulling, but not before the clamp caught the nail part of my finger in a glancing blow and filled most of the nail bed with blood because of the pressure. The centre two thirds of the nail grew as a hole for a few weeks until it started up again Shocked

Top tip: don’t try it at home kids! Thumbs Up

When the soft close does not work, try pulling the door outwards using the handle but not operating the handle... Then see if the soft close pics up and closes the door Thumbs Up

If it does then it simply needs adjusting Thumbs Up

Ouch.... never occurred to me Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

I’ve noticed the soft close doesn’t catch until the door is almost closed...so close it’s almost pointless. I have no idea how you could get your nail in there. This is on a 2014 AB. Can the catch (point where it starts to suck in the door) be adjusted? I’ve also noticed it doesn’t always work. On my M5 It catches must sooner. Way better on the BMW 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

My thumb was caught as the door closed and then the soft close did the actual crushing.

There’s likely to be a very good reason why the mechanism engages when the door is so nearly closed, making it more difficult for even children to get fingers in there. It’s still sufficient for the doors to be shut virtually silently though Thumbs Up

I tend to just close the doors normally, but find it useful on those occasions where you might only meet the first catch when otherwise you'd have to open and close the door again. Plus if you give passengers instruction on how to close a car door they think you're a bit weird Laughing

Soft close FFRR should come with instructions for the wife, who still slams the door! ( not the fetish’s bit, that’s Friday) Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. I know exactly what you mean.....and it's particularly annoying if my door's already open creating no resistance to the big slam Laughing
