Appreciate it if anyone knows what goes in this hole in the front flap? I am guessing it is a fixing to the sidestep behind but maybe it's just a plug? Various clips, screws and bolts hold the rest of it on...no captive nut behind and the hole is blind so is it a fir tree clip of some kind maybe?

On mine there's a large washer and a cross-head screw - presumably a self tapper that goes into a hole drilled into the sidestep.

On the subject of mud flaps, what are those bits that come out near the fixing holes?

The tabs fold back behind the wing and are secured by the screws.

Yes, on mine they are folded back as a spacer, assume this is correct but who knows?
