This is great info, thanks for all that.

I'll keep an eye on it Smile

Our car was ready early March, so probably has the 'old' battery.

I have friends (3!) with the same MY11 FFRR and they've all had flat (fully discharged) batteries. But they had their cars towards the end of last year (oct IIRC) and I suspect that since (with software updates etc) they've had no flat batteries.

I must check and see if they've had the low bat warning since.

No probs Thumbs Up

I haven't been brave enough to try the FBH though...have you??

Nah, wife was the only one of us who had the 'fbh' remote on her keyring and she lost the battery cover bit, so i've hidden it anyway Smile

Given we're too scared to use it we ought to ask for FBH's worth of compensation? Smile

Haha yes true - I think so.

Re: battery, I think it's just plain stupid that the batteries are all the same across the range and do not take into account the equipment level chosen - someone with 100% standard spec has the same battery as someone with a full spec car.

Re FBH: To be fair though, it does work! I got very freaked out when all this smoke started coming out from under the driver's door but it was cold outside and I had just started the engine. The FBH comes on to assist the engine in heating up. I've only seen it work once as it's been very mild. I read somewhere though the smoke dies down after a few uses.

FWIW, ours is 'standard' spec. So no extra kit (other than the sci fi experiment kit amount which is standard).

So if I'm reading correctly what you're saying: post-software update: it seems it's just a v sensitive low bat warning indicator....and the battery constantly running 'low' is a symptom of the way the Alternator is set up (to be more efficient)....i.e. battery is almost deliberately run down, until it needs a charge and at this point the alternator steps in and charges it as it needs?

Ha I don't think any Range Rover can exactly be called 'Standard'!!!

Yep. I think if anything it's now over-sensitive because LR are petrified of the backlash if owners received no warning that their equipment usage with the engine off etc was going to cause them problems. I had the door open for about 30 minutes the other day and didn't get a warning...I assume the interior lights are quite low voltage though...maybe even LED.

Yes the battery will not charge unless it really needs to and when it does it will only really put back in what it's used. If there is a defective battery in the first place, or it has run completely flat and not been fully charged up, I think this is where issues could occur. This is because the alternator is only programmed to do the bare minimum from what I've been told. All this for the sake of fuel efficiency eh... Very Happy

I get that bit, but it's backfired and we all think our, 70, 80, 90k vehicles are sh*t and walk around in fear that they're not gonna start Smile

So true...

But, having had to use LR Assist in the past with our Defender, I am quite confident in their efficiency and ability should the car need it. My dealer is also aware that if I do have continued problems my car will be going back to them! To be fair, anybody with a good relationship with their dealer (which I read you have) shouldn't have any problems. Unfortunately I don't think any car is trouble-free now...some more than others though!!!!

Yeah fairly sure they'd not leave me in the lurch.

Just a shame one has to chase and harrass for 'service'. How awesome would we think they were if they proactively get off their bums and sort this?

I guess none of them really feel the need to try too hard these days.*

*i'm a fan of my LR stealer to date and will remain so. Unless things get really bad Smile

+1 but I don't really know why it matters...

Perhaps next time we'll have a conversation in PM where our formatting won't matter and will be of no benefit to the rest of the forum...a sizeable portion of which seem to have a battery issue with their 2011 vehicles.

agree. I like multiple, indented quotes (to a degree) on a forum where there isn't the option of threaded discussion.

but appreciate it can impact readability.

yeah., but then (for short answers) a person's signature takes up a disproportionate amount of space/prominence and it isn't useful content Smile

Scarey - point proven but surely if somebody else posts in between whilst you're typing your response, the posts are just going to get muddled?!
