DVLA / POLICE Number Plate Enforcement Notice!

So, had a letter hit the doormat from Glos Police levying a fine of £100 for misrepresenting my wife's D4 number plate! The number has L11 in it and the number plate fixing is in the middle of the 11 and was an industry standard black plastic screw fixing...

This was picked up by a speed camera van! No, i was not speeding. But they do now have a technology in place to pick out incorrectly presented number plates!

So folks, beware if you have any incorrectly spaced or incorrect fonts or number plate screws that can misrepresent your registration number! The fuzz is now on the case with this new technology? (whatever it may be?)

Oh and finally, they have also informed DVLA who can remove your rights to display your private number plates if they see fit!

BEWARE!!!

And yes, ive swapped the number plate screw for a white one to keep them from levying another fine, next time i drive past the same van i drive past most weeks Censored Censored Censored

Anything to make money these days! Pity the police haven't got anything better to do except nail motorists and arrest people who refuse to self isolate!

It’s good to know that during the current global crisis, her majesty’s finest are targeting their resources where they are needed most.
I had a letter this week for doing 56 in a 50 zone, it arrived less than 48 hours after the offence yet when I reported that some tw@t had pinched 600 litres of diesel it was 6 days before anyone turned up

i think the reason you got the fine Craig was because the number/letters were made to look different from the normal.

L11 became LH , so going through a speed camera would confuse it ..

i don think incorrectly spaced numbers/letters are such a problem [at the moment Rolling Eyes ]

I brought this up ages ago & was ridiculed - AFAIA two "strikes" & the plate is pulled & never re-issued.

The price of vanity plates.

Sadly, the (mostly) automated PCN systems will continue to the last. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

I would understand that if it was a black screw cover but white on a white plate? The 11 looks a little close together so was it letter spacing that is the issue? 2011 4.4tdv8 Vogue

I'm guessing the tech isn't particularly picking up the spacing, more that it couldn't read the plate. The photo was then likely routed to an actual person to figure out what to do.

The interest in doing that is likely because cameras are increasingly used to ensure vehicles that are on the road are taxed, MOT's & insured.

As Stan says, spacing is less of an issue if its just a space in the wrong place, however, yours look tight enough together for that alone to potentially fool an ANPR camera.

I've had mis-spaced places in the past, but gave up a while ago as it's not worth the hassle (or fines) really.

Alistair is spot on
The police couldn’t care less about your plate as long as ANPR picks it up . If it doesn’t , then they track you down / pull you over 4.4 AdBlu Tractor

At one point I was 3/4 dodgy spacing.....I only have the fully legal plate left - the rest went with the vehicles
