L405 Deployable Towbar

Hoping someone can help with advice!

I have been offered an electrically deployable Westfalia towbar off an L494 RR Sport for my L405. I have been told that both models use the same towbar, which makes sense. However, each towbar seems to have a different Westfalia code on it.

Are they the same towbars?

Thanks

Craig

I would imagine the mechanics would be the same BUT... The 405 has different control units dependant on age. So, i would think most of the towbar would work and you may need to buy a different loom, switchpacks? & control unit (ECU)

Only you can decide weather it would be cost effective from there sir...

Thank you for your reply.

I have downloaded the fitting instructions from the Land Rover website. It says parts required:

VPLGT0117 - The towbar itself, which I have been told is the same for the L405 and L494 (?)

VPLGB0108 - The L405 control module (which ties in with you comment that the L405 and L494 have different versions)

VPLGT0202 - The L405 wiring loom

VPLGT0206 - The switch that is fixed in the boot

VPLGB0108 - A different towing eye cover for the bumper

My car is a 2013 Vogue SE SDV8

I can buy the module and looms etc from Brit Car at a good price. I wanted to check that the towbar is the same for both the RR and RRS.

Cheers

Craig

I can tell you that the strengthening bracket for the Sport is completely different to the full fat one.
So it will not fit.
Far easier to wait and get the proper l405 version as you will spend as much changing all the bits.

Thanks. I have downloaded the fitting instructions of the L494 off the Land Rover website and can see what you mean. The L494 re-enforcing frame "splays" at the end and bolts on differently to the main towbar.

I'll take your advice and wait!!

Cheers

Craig

Had a think about fitting a deplorable one to mine. Decided on a simple detachable like I had on the 332. I know it works well, and I don’t have the problem of it not deploying and locking. (And a few quids in the pocket in savings) There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
