[Wanted] L405 lettering template (rear)

I need a template for the rear lettering on my MY2020 (assume this is the same for all L405) because my tailgate has been replaced. I cannot rely on my insurer's bodyshop to do this properly, instead my detailer will fit the badges because he has serious OCD.

I also wonder if there are templates to ensure the other rear badging (Autobiography, P400e and Land Rover) are in the exact right place or do you just have to eyeball them? Rolling Eyes

Any information is most welcome. Thanks. Thumbs Up L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

If they are going on a 2020 car? I would go to a JLR dealer and take measurements/make a masking tape template... Thumbs Up

Insurers bodyshop Shocked

When I had a bump I insisted on using my local RR main dealer - i wanted someone independent doing the work, not the lowest cost bidder to the insurance company.

I expected a bit of a fight, but they seemed to give in quickly enough on the basis of the car being quite new.

+1

The last people i'd trust with any of my cars, let alone a brand new FFRR, is the insurers bodyshop. Of course, they push you that way as it keeps their costs down but they can't insist on it.

Glad to hear you're back in the full fat though Thumbs Up Thumbs Up 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

I can't fault the bodywork and paint, but the badging is impossible to get right without a template and I am not happy with the spacing. Also I have an issue with the hockey stick (bumper to rear lamp) finish, which is too matt, but that is another thread! https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic54924.html

PowerfulUK say the badging position slightly changed 2018+ and they do not have a template. When the LR dealer is back in action I will have to investigate through them. If necessary I will make my own template (which will be pretty tedious), but I might go via LR HQ first. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

I'd start by telling the insurance company that they are wrong & suggesting that you now go to the main dealer to get the badges done.

Alternatively, they can try again & you'll keep rejecting it until they are perfect.....

If you've already claimed, then there's no extra cost to you - just keep rejecting it.

The issue there is for every badge removed, the risk of paint damage is increased!!!

“Didn’t leave us like that!” I hear the Bodyshop cry!!!

The reason I suggested making your own template above was because that’s what I needed to do when I put my 2020 badges on my face lifted car... It’s easy peasy with a roll of masking tape and a biro! I wouldn’t trust my local MD to service my car let alone the anal task of replacing badges! 🙄😲🤪

Ok, CTC, I'll make my own, perhaps after measuring up a factory car once The World reopens, and then get the detailer to do it. He's got a steady hand. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

The PowerfulUK ones don’t match a L405.

When I changed my bonnet badge I taped up the bonnet using 3M detailer tape.
In your case as suggested above you’ll either need to make a template from another 2020 car or take accurate measurements and then apply them.

The only other hope you have is stamp your feet with Land Rover themselves time get one of the assembly line templates or measurements from them.

Original badges should come pre-spaced so it should just be a case of the actual position on the tailgate that you need.

In the factory they are installed using a large plastic panel that centres itself then the operator installs them from the clear tape/application cardboard thingy! You won’t get anything of use from the factory as they use the large factory plastic panel thingy!
When I did my badges I went to a main dealer and simply paper masking taped squares around each badge then I filled in the rest of the area around the letters using 2” masking tape and marked the bottom of the window and bottom of the panel using a pencil ✏️ all very easy when it’s in front of you👍

Yeah I must admit, when I watched the Autobiography build on Superbuild SUV or whatever that program was, their template was the size of the whole lower tailgate from memory! Good luck with it. 2003 VW Golf V6 4motion

About to replace the front badges and have the Powerful UK template which as already pointed out doesn't quite work. They've actually stopped selling the letters as have www.supertweaks.com
So I'm actually now very nervous about getting it right.
I did the rear at the weekend and that's a piece of Censored

I think the answers lots of masking tape. Wish me luck

Super Tweaks still have the letters in stock. I received mine last week.

I watched a YouTuber do a review of the L405, he was called High Peak Autos I think, young lad. One of his other videos was a summary of costs of him owning a L405. I’m sure he said he paid £200 to have the lettering replaced at a main dealer

The faded black lettering needs replacing on my aging L322 and I keep umming and errring about doing it.... Neutral don’t want to start it and peel off half the tailgate paint or leave it looking as wonky as the Hollywood sign Big Cry
