So, who did you hand your keys to in the time of ownership?

The answer who the theif is might be with you.

It went to an authorised LR dealership for some minor warranty work 10 days before it was stolen and with the V5 (setting out address) in the glovebox.... Shocked ————————————

I'd be relaying that information to the Police. But with the V5 in the glovebox how would that sit with the insurance company..

They know and they’ve paid out.

The police have closed the case. I don’t think they’d be interested as it’s even less than circumstantial. They didn’t even bother looking at CCTV at the end of my road so don’t think they will be interested at all in that. ————————————

But if it's someone at the dealership it might stop it happening to someone else.

Which dealership?

It's def someone there. I think to clone keys, don't they need access to thr car and keys?

Can you tell this to high up at the dealership? Maybe if they had this happen to other customers then they should get police involved.

They had access to both.

I was always struck by the fact that I had been on the pavement just 5/10 minutes before it was taken so was shocked it was so brazen. However if whoever stole it had never seen me before and so didn’t know what I looked like then it’s less surprising. It maybe that there is a “mole” in the dealership.

It was one of the new ones in London opposite that old shopping centre... ————————————

Did you have a steering wheel lock on it? I know it’s only a minor deterrent (Disklok aside), but my thinking is that it might at least stop a quick getaway.

Maybe they signal grabbed when you locked it?

I'm no expert but I did think that was cured by manufacturers years ago. I was surprised to read recently they can apparently still do that.

I thought that initially too but because of COVID I hadn’t use the car in over a week and only randomly used it the day before to pick up some supplies so it would have had to have been an extremely fortuitous signal grab.

I’m beginning to think a key cloned at the dealers is a much more feasible analysis. ————————————

It's not hard to clone the key but the dealers don't do it themselves, not legit anyway. You have to remove the KVM (Keyless vehicle module) from the N/S/R inner wing, it then has to be stripped and flashed with the new key by some fancy software. Takes just over an hour to do so not impossible if theres a snake at the dealers with the right kit!
Sorry to hear of your loss by the way they're Censored

Aah. Maybe not then. I’m just flabbergasted about how it was done. And I’m also still seriously gutted. Insurance paid up though with a 6% drop on what I paid for it 6 months ago. Could be worse. ————————————

Sorry to hear of your story, but a 6% loss in 6 months is not a bad result.

Most unlike an insurance company to be so generous.

Did you have to go through the usual procedure of rejecting a couple of miserly offers first?
