Goodyear Efficient Grip from ASDA Tyres

Hi all

I serviced my 19 year old daughters Fiesta today and gave it a good check over.

Around 18 months ago I put a set of Goodyear Efficient Grip tyres on it for her. They have covered around 11,000 miles and were manufactured in October 2018

Take a look at this photo and the cracks in the tyre treads

Pressures are as per Ford recommendations and she does not drive the car as if in a rally. Surely the tyres should not be cracking with such low mileage and being less than 2 years old?

Jim

I would be going back to where you bought them and asking the dealer to make a claim to Goodyear on your behalf. 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone

I would not be happy & would expect the dealer to send them back to Goodyear.I would not want my daughter to be running around with tyres in that state.

I had a similar issue (although they were also wandering) with Goodyear tyres on a Transit a while back. I had been running Avons without issue & the tyre dealer talked me into the Goodyears.

The tyre dealer, fair play to them changed them for Avons and sent the tyres back to Goodyear who insisted that the tyres were not faulty in any way. That finished me with Goodyear for ever.

My FFRR had Goodyears on it when I bought it - not long before one of them had to be replaced with the spare as it was giving the impression of a faulty wheel bearing. They will require replacing soon & considering Michelin Cross Climates or getting a spare set of wheels & having summer/winter setups. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

I bought these through Asda Tyres and they were fitted in October 2018. Since then she has driven just under 8500 miles.

My daughter, bless her, is a care assistant in an old folks home and is worried enough about the Covid19 at present. I have sent a complaint to Asda Tyres so I will wait to hear back.

The cracking is not down to miles it is down to age. On the side of the tyre there will be a date of manufacture as a 4 digit number. First 2 digits is the week and the other 2 the year, if you had them fitted Oct 18 then the tyres should have a date code within 2018 ideally not more than six months prior to fitting. EG 2618 would be week 26 of 2018 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone

I wouldn't be happy with those Jim. My mum got an MOT advisory on age related tyre cracking last month which weren't as bad as those but are 5 years old. Maybe ASDA chucked on seriously old stock - have you checked the date code ? Current: FF Westminster money pit

Apart from the fact they have not covered that many miles I would, as a matter of urgency get a new set of tyres fitted, retain the old ones and take it up with Asda and if you paid with a credit card your card issuers.

Please get your daughter safe on the road, especially as she is a key Worker. The paperwork can wait. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

Three tyres were manufactured March 2018 and one October 2018.

I always check the date codes on tyres before they are fitted.

New stock (as they were) tyres shouldn’t look like that. I would as a matter of course take it up with where you purchased them, but also send an email to Goodyear with photos of the cracks, and photos of the date codes and tyre spec a long with when and where you bought them. Just to back up your claim and cover all bases. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

A reply from Asda Tyres who I purchased through.

Hi,
I am a trained tyre fitter and have over 4 years experience in the trade.
Unfortunately your claim does not come under manufactures warranty as this lasts only 12 months.
all warranty claims are subject to the tyres state upon inspection.
Goodyear tyres in perfect conditions have a lifespan of 12-15,000 miles.
You have stated youself you have done 9000 on the tyres.
You are claiming for the tread cracking however the tread depth has been significantly worn down due to many different factors.
this is general wear and tear due to the state of the tyre condition (tread depth).
As stated previous the cracking is caused by a number of different reasons.
Kind regards
Tony

Hello Tony

Who exactly are you? Are you an engineer? A tyre NDT Specialist? What department di you work in?

Sorry, but I categorically disagree with your comments.

I now require a complaints number and for my complaint to be escalated.

Hi,
I have looked into your request and the cracking of the tyres is due to general wear and can be accelerated with a lot of different factors.
Under inflation, heat transfer which is generated from friction on the roads and/or heat from the tarmac.
looking at the tread on the tyres it looks to me that you have roughly 3-4mm of tread left on image 3 below.
I can agree with you that this is an estimation but due to my mechanical background this is a fair estimation.
the cracking that is occurring currently is not classed as dangerous to me it looks like general wear.
In this case no refund needs to be granted as the length of time the tyres have been on the car.
granted the cracking could be advised during an MOT but again this comes down to general wear and tear on a vehicle.
You could argue the fact that the tread depth could be advised also.
I know this is not what you wanted to hear.
But under the circumstances and time thats passed im putting the cracking down to general wear and tear of the tyres.
kind regards
Tony

I think Tony at ASDA is talking rubbish.(being polite)
I do quite a small annual mileage and as a result tend to never wear tyres out, they age instead.
Recently changed a 6 year old set of Pirelli Scorpions that we're in better condition than those tyres.
There is no way October 2018 fitted tyres with 8500miles on them should be in that condition.
But then again I'm not a tyre fitter with fully 4 years experience. Wink

As seems to be the way of the world today, post something on Facetwat or Instabook that a much wider (and lets face it, much younger) audience than this forum will see and watch Asda Tyres business go down the pan, especially if you mention your daughter being a carer!

Mike

PS, maybe "Tony" needs to do a bit of soul searching and better hope he never needs a carer who can't come to his aid because her tyres are faulty. With everything that's going on just now we seem to be seeing the best and the worst of humanity!
