Mine are automatic (2012 Westie), but I wish I could switch them off.
I now make a point of folding them in from the button on the drivers door every time before I switch the engine off. The reason is that I've seen -18 degrees in my driveway and I don't want to hear a motor burning out whilst fighting against solid ice when I turn on my ignition.
The auto wipers are designed to avoid this, because if you leave them switched-on, they won't start automatically the next morning when they are welded to a frozen windscreen. Why o why didn't they think about this with the mirrors? The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom
