L405 - Upper tailgate/liftgate Interior trim removal.

I’m fitting my Dashcam and would like to run the cable for the rear camera through either of the two rubber tubes from the body to the tailgate.

The problem I have is that I can’t workout the process for removing the interior trim to access the area. I cant find any clues in either the workshop manual that I’ve download from here, a search on here or the web.

I’m guessing it’s just a matter of clips and prising them off, but where to start?

Many thanks for any info.

There is a useful thread here:

https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic51472.html

I fitted mine last weekend and it was a PITA! I vowed, as I have done in the past, to pay a professional in future.

To answer your question. Simply pull down the roof lining and you can access the hole where the rubber enters the roof, like this:

Many thanks for the reply. Your photo shows the place I’m currently ar with the cable. I can get to the end of the flexi-pipe in the roof, it’s the tailgate end I can’t gain access to.

The post you attached though does give further information. It says that the internal trim on the tailgate is bonded resin, and the only removal left panel is the lower section.

It does indicate that you can remove the spoiler and gain access that way. But to be honest, with the possibility of degraded DAB reception and low image quality due to tints, I think I’ll give it up and run with a front camera only.

Many thanks for the reply though.

I managed to fit the rear camera without taking off the spoiler, and the DAB reception is fine. If you want the detail of the fit let me know and I’ll post it up. MY23 D350 HSE

I had to pop out and grab a few more photo’s in between the showers. Here go’s:

Flick off the bracket on the top of the LHS long grommet. Also remove the retaining strap half way along the grommet. Pull both ends of the grommet out.

Feed the some insulated wire through top to bottom and attach to the dash cam cable. Pull through, it’s quite tight!

Pull off the side panel.

Also pull off the bottom panel. In both cases there are 4 fixing points. Start at one end and move along. It’s a bit scary for the inexperienced but they will come off (and go back on) with a bit of brute force.

I spent a couple of hours with some wire trying feed from the top of the long rubber grommet inside to the bottom of boot door. In the end I did what one of the others did and drilled a small hole for the cable to exit near the top of the door and then ran it down the outside of the door under the side panel before re-entering door via the large round grommet.

Things get easier now. Position the rear camera on the bottom panel which is now hanging loose, and push is back together. All done!

Any questions give me a shout. Good luck! MY23 D350 HSE

Brilliant write up!
It didn’t occur to me to mount the camera at the bottom of the window.

Hopefully Stan will add this to the Wiki
