Westfalia tow hitch removal

My Wife's 2014 L405 came with the Westfalia tow hitch which I want to remove. The dealer says the rear bumper has to come off?? Has anyone removed one of these. Thx!

It’s a subframe mounted under the rear end, there’s a recent thread of one being fitted. Bumper has to come off.

Should be a detachable hitch, as long as it has the correct bumper panel, they’re not very noticeable , have a look at this thread page 4 for pics of the kit:

Don’t forget if you do remove it you will need to source and replace the rear crash bar which is taken off to fit the tow bar. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The rear crash bar goes back on when fitting the tow bar. It’s the two parts which incorporate the tow eye and the exhaust hangars which need to be sourced. John

Sorry, was talking about the L322. May be different on the L405. John

When I had my tow bar fitted to my 405, it came back with the rear crash bar in the boot.

So unless they did it wrong on mine and it should be attached..... the OP would need to find one to refit.

Edit

It definitely goes in the bin.....

I’ve fitted one recently, they’re not to bad to do actually. Yes the bumper has to come off and you will have to source a new crash bar to refit in its place.
