Deployable towbar - deploy & stow queries

Hi,

Should the 13 pin electric socket that deploys with the towbar deploy fully or do you have to finish the manoeuvre by hand? Pictured is where ours currently comes to rest and you can just see the spring loaded cover won’t open where it comes to rest so it then needs to be pulled down by hand to be able to open the cover (no great hardship but wanted to check:

After being manoeuvred by hand:

Finally, when stowed, is this the correct resting position for the towbar or should it be completely out of sight?

Thanks Thumbs Up

When I first got my car it was 2.5 years old and I don't believe the tow bar had ever been used. The socket didn't move down automatically when the bar was deployed as it was seized up and it had to be moved down by hand. This was due to lack of use and after plenty squirting of WD40 the spring mechanism loosened up and now it drops down fully when the bar is deployed.

Give it a dose of WD or similar and a manual work out and all should be good. 2017 SDV8 Autobiography

Mine did this too after a couple of years from new...even after regular use. The fittings are just mild steel with poor corrosion protection and are exposed to the weather.

I did the same thing with WD40. 2017 Range Rover Vogue V6 Diesel

The mechanism is available separately to the towing electrics so is not too badly priced... Changed plenty of them from 3yrs old! Rolling Eyes

Rather than start a new thread I’ll revitalise this one, my towbar doesn’t seem to want to deploy in this cold weather will liberally squirting with WD40 cut it or do I need a new mechanism for a permanent fix? Geoff

During Lockdown - never, but usually about a couple of times a month. Bike rack not towing. Geoff

Could it be frozen Geoff? I have a vision now of french lorry drivers in winter lighting bonfires 🔥 under their diesel tanks when stuck out in weather! Shocked Thud

It did it once before, nice warm weather, but I think I will wait a while until it gets warmer before putting my hand in my pocket, I know what will happen if I light a fire under the car Embarassed . As I say not much use during lockdown, that's why I was trying to deploy it to maintain the battery through the towing electrics using my C-tek. Stan has advised me that using the jump start points under the bonnet will be OK. Geoff

So the towbar won't reset, buttons keep on flashing buzzer keeps on sounding - methinks fuses need to be pulled. Looks like two of them any advance on two. OR Can I switch something off/reset with the IDTool?

Oh and thanks Stan - currently being tickled or should I say trickled. Geoff
