OK so its not a Land Rover but now its been revealed I like the look of this and with the potential of reliable engines etc might well end up on my wish list.

Well, that looks close enough to a Defender to make me wonder if Sir Jim and his mates have got good lawyers. Show the picture of this vehicle to someone without the brand enthusiasm most on here will have and ask them what it is. The answer will be “a Land Rover”.

Questions to answer are :
1. Does it leak?
2. Can you hear yourself think/ have a conversation with passengers at normal road speeds?
3. Is there room for the driver’s right arm within the cabin?
4. Can you dismantle it with a couple of spanners and a screwdriver?

If the answer is no in each case, then it might look like a Land Rover, but clearly isn’t!

LR have already lost the court case with this one. The judge said something like “LR can’t claim a monopoly on boxy looking 4x4’s”.

In terms of engine reliability, while the prospect of a reliable engine would be nice to have, I wouldn’t let the BMW engine alone put me off owning one; there’s still a lot else to like about it.

great name but they've missed a trick with the front end. Looks very dated and as if from a 70's/80's jap thing. (IMHO!)

Interestingly, for me, Land Rover never copyrighted the shape so didn't have a hope in court, looks like a good idea however I am not sure it is financially viable in this day and age but wish them well Thumbs Up

They have to sell 25000 worldwide to break even, going for US certifications as well, I hope they succeed and it is a player but many have gone before........ Thumbs Up

I can see a bit of G Wagon which for me is a good thing but also reminds me of the Santana. Depending on how they put this together i.e. build quality and reliability I think they might have a niche between pick up trucks and chelsea tractors, i really hope it works and is a commercial success. RR Vogue TDV8 Grey/Black

Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

This made me laugh, I bet Sir Jim and his mates have VERY good lawyers Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Having read various articles and watched how they went about researching and designing it, I think they will sell loads to people who genuinely need an uber reliable, off road, utilitarian vehicle - it should be better than anything else currently available

Would I buy one as a daily driver - no, its not for my needs 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Oh trust me, he has. You don’t succeed as well as he has in business without a good legal adviser.

I agree with your thoughts though; he’s clearly seen a gap and come up with a credible product to fill it. I hope he’s successful.

I like the look of it , I have a d4 for work and will not never no way have a 5 looked at the new defender and to be honest felt very under whelmed by it
Now this though for work I do like the look off and it seems like it might be well priced
