jack each wheel up and rotate to see if you can replicate the noise...

Did this today with all 4 wheels. All wheel weights secure, brake dust shields seemed as they should be and couldn’t replicate the noise. Nothing obvious seemed to be rubbing. Front near side wheel was a bit noisier than the others and the inner rim of that wheel was dirtier/ afflicted with a heavier brake dust coating than the other wheels.

However, the dry friction noise I’m hearing can’t be heard from inside the cabin when the car is freewheeling. It is only heard audible from inside the cabin when the car is moving forwards with the accelerator pedal pressed/ under acceleration and it does sound like it’s coming from the rear wheel drive area. Just finished a 970 mile trip and it has been a very annoying, constant noise.

It’s in at the main dealer tomorrow to establish if it’s rear diff/ pinion seal related or perhaps they might come up with something else.

I’ve just had the diff pinion seal replaced under warranty because it was leaking. Will keep my ears tuned for this noise!

Dropped it off at MD this afternoon... good question NMJ... thought it important to take Stan’s advice and eliminate obvious causes before throwing the car at the mercy of the MD... still 3 hours of life that’s not coming back thanks to pfaffing around jacking wheels up, spinning them round, then taking them off and trying to eliminate causes... hey ho at least they got a good clean to the back of the inner rims... praying the MD doesn’t say they can’t find anything... or that they have found something and it’s not covered under the LR Extended Warranty Laughing

Just had the health check video. LR technician says it needs a new rear diff. Waiting to find out if it’s covered under LR Extended Warranty...

I also reported a knocking sound from the front near side suspension. They’re saying it needs a new shock absorber. Likewise, waiting to see if that’s LR Extended Warranty covered.

Best practice to replace both shockers at the same time...... or maybe they will only suggest that if you are paying.... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I did expect it Stan tbh. Having had back to back RRs for a fair few years now you do get familiar with those expensive sounding “what’s that?” noises. Although, usually turn to the forum first to seek views of trusted forum members in the hope of eliminating obvious simple things first.

It’s all covered under warranty. Only renewed the warranty on 4th August so it’s paid for itself one week in.

Tbh, people make lots of adverse comment about the LR warranty but it’s never failed us and has saved thousands over the years. It’s a lot at £146/ month but worth every penny based on this trip alone.

@mjd... I’m meticulous about my cars but won’t be offering to replace the other side at my own expense, not whilst there’s a warranty covering parts like this 👍🏻

mJD is correct, however I Wouldn’t worry too much, they did just the one on my 322 and it was absolutely fine!

I doubt it needs a completely new diff but I also doubt the techs have the ability
To diagnose the failed bearing....

A tranny company could do it no probs but as it’s under warranty it’s not worth worrying about. New diff. job done. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
