People forget that cars are designed to work across the whole world, and that engines also work in parts of the third world where even if refined properly, chances are its stored in a really shonky tank at the petrol station.

for that matter, how many farmers here run their range rovers on red, from the dirty tank at the bottom of their yard. even more so their tractors and lorries which have some real emissions gear and very sensitive injectors, not lke the fairly basic roadcar stuff.

Lots of uk high end cars get exported to bits of africa and south east asia.

I'll take my chance on whatevers cheapest, fancy fuel is as well marketed as bottled water.

Ive had the the same 2 gallons of morrisons fuel in my tank for the last 4500 miles and the gauge hasnt moved from full yet LOL BMW i3 Electric Car

My theory is it’s all down to how the car is used. Short, frequent journeys not good. Long runs, good. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Depends on which Tanker Driver to speak to - some of them are miserable gits because their rear ends get sore sitting on their wallets all day............

That's also a good point (along with the fuel quality one from earlier), you can do much more damage by not using the car much. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Very true indeed, but work how well ?

A 6 cylinder engine will still "work" running on 5 cylinders.........

I'm more than comfortable with my own experiences of running (relatively) high revving and performance diesel engines for decades to continue using the "snake oil" thanks.

Big lazy truck engines are fine on low-cetane rating fuels - as long as it's clean. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

Just my two pennies worth.....

I only put premium fuel in my cars because I find they run better and you get a longer range. Based on experience rather than science; for example a brimmed FFRR goes about 50 miles further with Shell V Power compared to supermarket diesel, based on long runs here and in Europe. The Mini JCW also goes further on a tank of V Power with mixed use.

If you use the Shell app you get discounts which brings the cost closer to standard fuel too.

This thread is a perfect example of the effect of powerful advertising. Disregards the science, I know best amazing. They can produce minimal power increase and do nothing to the MPG other than this tiny increase in power developed which would give an equally tiny MPG improvement.
