What's the hybrid like ? Not the P400e

Pre-amble:

London's Mayor: You need to get rid of your Euro 5
Londoners generally: You're a d**k mate
Me: bury my head in the sand and put another coat of wax on my TDV8
My wife: you need to decide what to replace your diesel with.
Me: Look that that shine. The clay bar before the wax really does.....
Me: Reluctantly looking at my ULEZ options

Actual topic:

Morning team.

I don't know too much about the short-lived hybrid 405, was it 2015-16 MY ?
Saw a few hovering around £30k

I know there would be significant compromises compared to a P400e but what are they like?

I assume they use the V6 diesel so does that mean they are susceptible to the crankshaft of death?

BTW I have done a search but struggling to distinguish the discussions between the hybrid and the P400e

. Cheers, Greg

Greg,
Check out the L405 WM in the Wiki.
It contains quite a big section covering the early hybrid version.

Yes, they’re the same SDV6 diesel, but with the added volts produce 340 bhp and 700 Nm torques from 1500 rpm.
Apparently they do about 1 mile max on EV and produce about 160 grams of carbon, which is only about 20 better than the straight up diesel. Shocked

For London, I cannot imagine it buys you any advantage whatsoever. Better off getting the 5.0! Thumbs Up

On the plus side I think they were AB only, so if you find one (difficult) at least it will have some toys on it. Rolling Eyes L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

1. Do they even meet the requirements of the ULEZ?

2. Good luck in finding someone to maintain it, as they sold next to none.

Does the interior come with free sunglasses? Rolling with laughter
I do admire non-black interiors because it’s nice to be different and non-black can add to the luxurious feel, but I always felt that Land Rover did not get the red interior tone right, it needs turning down a few notches. My sister went nuts 20 years ago and bought 2 expensive red leather Italian sofas. Superbly finished and made to last, but she had to get rid of them after a while. I think she said they were interfering with the Sky satellite signal or she stopped getting visitors, can’t remember which. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Red - here's me assuming.... Turns out you're absolutely right:

Interiors: I'm an Ivory man myself. Wouldn't have anything else. Black's not for me at all. But especially not red.

ULEZ = topic over. Rolling Eyes

Now, where's that tin of wax...?

England 2013 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Luxor

Just swapped my petrol for a diesel - didn't need or use the performance and I also don't miss the hassle of filling it up every couple of days and I wouldn't dream of driving into a city - any city.

I suspect my next car will be all electric but not at the moment as there are only one or two approved for towing use. This is a big problem for me, much bigger than ULEZ or not being able to take car into cities if/when they are announced.

I am now inspired to wash and wax the car and give it a good coat of "looking at" I also like pale colours but each to his (or her) own. Geoff

Greg,
Does that presumably rule out 3 ltr L405)’ s of a similar vintage ?

Mike the diesels, both V6 and V8 went to Euro 6 in 2016. These are ok.

A 5.0 is not off the table either

One thing I have mused is fitting mine with an SCR Cat (and associated kit) from a Euro 6 SDV8 405. The SCR Cat is the main difference and is fitted after the DPF with an adblue injection point too. There are other things too, won't go into it all here...

Euro 5 to 6 Conversions are starting to happen in Germany and lorries and busses in the UK

I have made a few phone calls but everyone says it's too hard.

Sounds like a challenge to me.

Getting the car tested and reclassified is possible but is definitely harder than the actual conversion. There are approved suppliers for conversion too however my man logic tells me the TDV8 Euro 5 and SDV8 Euro 6 are the same engine but with different bits. The thinking being using approved LR bits could be a way through this.

I am trying to understand the process but there is not a lot I can find online.

I remember old Ed China bought a Shelby Cobra replica and got it through a new vehicle (albeit kit car) approval with a lot of attention to the exhaust system. Different cars / engines / fuel I know but it did tell me you could get a one-off approved.

. Cheers, Greg

There were 2 versions of the Diesel hybrid (1) Pre Sept 2015 Euro 5 340 ish BHP & (2) Sept 2015 onward with 354 BHP and add-blue lez compliant . Super relaxing to drive and very good on fuel with a 600 + touring mile range .

This exact concept with "inline electric motor" Has now been reintroduced on the new Diesel straight 6 Ingenium 2020 Range rovers .

With the now very good value V6 models change the oil far more frequently than the car indicates ( this applies to most cars - you cant beat clean oil )
