Intake manifold planum chamber rear nearside oil misting.

Hi All,

So today while checking out a restricted performance alarm, ( water in fuel sensor - I found I hope that the sensor was not quite pushed home) . I found under the engine cover a very slight bit of misting from the rear near side plenum chamber inlet pipe connection.

It seems to be misting from the intake manifold itself right where the connector according to the picture would push in. The one that is misting seems to be pushed in a little more than the other 3. Any reason why a mechanic would remove this during a normal filter and oils service? NOt urgent but just somethign I noticed when I popped the top cover.

1) Is this a common problem?
2) How easy is it to resolve?
3) Is there a seal in there that can be changed?

Thanks

Your car is still fitted with the original soft rubber connection hoses which are VERY prone to splitting, particularly around the edge of the retaining clip.

This was the number one fault when I compiled the 4.4 tdV8 Fault Log.

They are fairly easy to change for the newer design which are much stronger and less flexible.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the quick response, Is that a TSB issue that LR do under warranty do you know or is it a owner fix?

If it is an owner fix , where do I get them from? Do you know a good supplier?

Thanks again.

Neil

Plenty on here if you use the search function above. From memory you need 70mm silicone tubing and cut them yourself. There is a write up on here somewhere Thumbs Up
Those ones you have are useless flimsy Censored

Thanks,

I did not know they were 70mm so would have had a hard time guessing what to type into the search engine, I was searching for L322 4.4 tdv8 inlet plenum hose connection.

Thinking they would be bought in parts from LR.

Thanks for the help. I will have a read.

Keep us posted on how you get on. It's great to have feedback etc.
That thread is probably the best one for guidance to replace them.
Should be a fairly cheap and quick job (unless you get parts and labour from LR Rolling with laughter )

So having looked at the threads, it seems mine is leaking where the hard pipe goes into the intake plenum chamber.

It looks like the silicone section would not affect the area whre the oil is misting from.

I will have a longer look when the engine has cooled down and feedback.

Thanks

Original replacements are available from site sponsors Duckworths or alternatively a cheaper option used by some for a DIY repair , is to buy suitable size pieces of silicone hose from EBay.

I can’t just remember the size, but a site search will find the answer in one of my older postings.

Thanks ,

Awesome stuff, I am away this weekend, so have looked at th eposts above from yourself and Dr Rob, Just ordered a length of 70mm ID silicone hose, to get me out of the doodah if needed.

Will have a look at the car Tomorrow to confirm the place it is misting from, but strangely it looks like the other side of that pipe not the rubber section, once I have reviewed I will feedback and if I can get it done on LR warranty I will do, if not then the DIY direction in the was to go or I will take a look at the updated units from Duckworths.

Thanks again.

Neil

Much rarer, but one or two members have suffered a split in the actual plastic moulding of both the plenum side or the inlet manifold side.....Just prey it is not the latter Big Cry Big Cry

You Guys are Genius, with a capital "G".

Thanks very much Baltic Blue and Dr Rob.

Cleaned it up took it for a drive and then undid the jubilles to find a little more oil underneath and there was the split.

Thansk again , I should have the 70mm pipe tomorrow , if ti comes in time for the weekend then I will get on with the fix, if not then will take it with me and see if my luck holds.

Thanks

Neil
