L322 TD6 Vogue advice please....

I’m considering buying a 2004 TD6 Vogue. 152k, full history and reconditioned gearbox fitted in 2017. No advisories at last Mot (5 months ago). It has one smallish blister on rear wing at bumper corner, some bubbling on the leading edge of the upper tailgate and corrosion on the lower inner sills where they meet the sills (see photos). Is is worth viewing and what’s it worth? The seller has it advertised for £3900 Ono. Thanks as always....

At that price its tremendous value BUT rust never gets better and if its like that on the outside what is going on underneath . The alloy body L405 are still way of this sort of price level but maybe buy this car as a stopgap ?

My 2009 with fewer miles was advertised for not much more at £5000 ono. If it was mint then I'd say it's a decent price. But with work to do I'd go for a TDV8 for little, if any more money. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

A lot are going to be like that I’m afraid. Have a look at a few and see the same place on others. That said, at least no one has tried to bodge it and cover it up. It’s also nice that it’s still on the 18 inch wheels and not been tarted up.....

Thanks for comments so far. I’m thinking £3000 to £3300 maximum. I think it looks like surface corrosion. It’s rarely failed an Mot test and no mention of corrosion at any test. It’s passed the last 4 Mots with no advisories! Sellers first name is Dougie, based in the Scottish capital. I also like the fact it’s completely original and not been tarted up. Think I’ll go to view it and I’ll report back. Will be great to get back in an L322 after 15 months in a VW Caravelle!

Good looking car for £3k Thumbs Up . Not quite original, the front grille and side vents are after market.
If you do decide to buy your first job should be to remove the plastic cell covers whilst crossing your fingers. Smile
Good luck.

If there’s serious corrosion there would the mot not highlight it?

Unfortunately (or not) Mot testers are not required to remove any covers to inspect which means the car could quite easily pass an mot with substantially rotten cills as long as they don't show underneath of the car.
It won't be surface corrosion in that position, almost certainly come through from inside the cavity section.
You could always ask the seller to remove the cill covers to satisfy yourself, he can only say no or similar.
Not a difficult job to do.

Just thinking about it, you don't really need to fully remove the cill covers you could just pull away the top edge of each cill at the rear and have a look behind. If there is any corrosion it will be at the rear of the cills.

Could be terrible behind.

Could still be solid.

Unknown.

If it is terrible then it can get really bad. it is fixable but probably easier to find a different one. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks for input - appreciated. Given up on the red one - seller not realistic about price! Paid too much when he bought it, I suspect!

Looking at 2008 L322 Overfinch 3.6 TDV8, silver with black interior, 120k miles, lots of money spent on it! Everything done except EGR valves. If I buy I’ll get them deleted and blanking plates installed. Just serviced/6mm tyres/gearbox recently repaired and serviced/torque converter replaced/recent starter motor + battery/ usual corrosion points but not too bad - upper tailgate has been repaired (8 out of 10 job)/Tiger alloys refurbished etc.

All this for two grand more than the red one...... Shocked
