Removing wing mirrors

Hi Guys
I have quite a fair bit of corrosion under the powder coating on my wing mirror base's. I plant to take them off and clean up then re-spray them. has anyone done this or have an idiots guide to removing the whole wing mirror assembly? Any tricky bits i need to watch out for?
