TD6 gearbox service

Haven’t had the TD6 gearbox serviced since it was rebuilt about 8 years ago, granted it’s only covered probably 20k miles since then. Is it worth getting the filter and oil changed? If so, where’s best to get the filter, gasket and oil from to do it myself?

Cheers everyone

If you fancy the lazy way, pop over to Suffolk Transmissions at Haverhill & see Paul, he did my X5 [same box] a couple of times for me.
If you're doing it yourself, any good 4x4 indy should stock them, Duckworths on this forum is a sponsor so there's a good start. Opie Oils but not sure if they do a filter, should do. Any decent motor factor but check it's the correct spec of oil.
I won't get involved with gearbox oil, too much chance of contamination but any decent BMW Indy can do the job as they're the exact same box as the X5.

This is the correct gearbox oil for the GM 5 speed box.

Opie oils sell it for around £70 for 20L

Well worth doing and easy enough as a DIY. I did mine 50000 km after a rebuild and the fluid was no longer clear. By removing the cooler lines you can drain the cooler too or even flush if you are confident and have a willing helper. There is a great video on youtube. Plenty of options on fluid nowadays at least here in Oz I used Penrite Fully Synthetic meeting GM Spec. 2007 TDV8 VSE

Would recommend that you get Filtran filter. Original equipment. Don't think the substitutes are reliable. John
