No other signs and no fault codes on my reader or dash (yet) i'm doing a 100 mile round trip tomorrow so will see how it is and watch the rev counter and see if it drops in time with the noise as i see thats another symptom of a failing TC, i'll also try in manual mode to see if it still does it. Have found this place about 40 mins from me so if it gets any worse i'll pop to them and see what they say, they look a top notch garage

Keep us updated. I still have manual shift & not really noticed any drop of revs. Paranioa is second nature with these cars. |

Did over 100 miles today, had some noise mostly around 45-50 mph. I still get the noise in manual mode as well as sport and no drop in revs at all and from what ive read its common for a torque converter issue to go away when in manual mode. Seemed to happen quite often on bends but still sometimes on straights. Its due a service so will get that done and get them to check the drive shafts, UJ's and wheel bearings etc to rule them out first and go from there... |

Well going to see a specialists ZF approved gearbox centre on Wednesday as only about 40 mins away, had a long chat on the phone and was told sounds very likely to be the torque converter. He told me if i have it done he would highly recommended i have the gearbox rebuilt at the same time as its very likely it will be needing it in the short term. He gave me some figures for a converter and my box rebuilt depending on whats needed once its opened up, it will range from £1100-£1600 fully fitted up to in the very worse case of £2000 and for that things like harnesses and pumps would be changed but not sure what that all means. They are going to take a look and drive Wednesday and go from there, October looking to be an expensive month, just spent £500 on new tyres! |

Gearbox update 2003 4.4 petrol 111k on the clock getting a random rumble between 30-50mph, no drop in revs and no codes plus silky smooth gear changes. Booked it in today for a diagnostic check at Planet Gears a ZF specialist in Peterborough. Anyway got there and the owner Roy plugged his scanner in and went for a drive leaving me in the waiting room, 20 mins later Roy comes back saying he couldn't here the rumble, nothing flagging up on his scanner and that the car drives perfectly. So we both go out again and drove for a further 15 mins and the |

Ok so just posting this as might be relevant to others, today i decided to put two tubes of Lube guard (Dr Tranny) in and give it a go, well it instantly stopped the rumble. Its early days and ive only done about 10 miles so far but all i can say is as of now theres no rumble and it worked instantly! |
