Hi,

After a couple of months of searching I picked up this 2010 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography with 124000 miles on the clock. It isn't perfect cosmetically, but I can work on that. Mechanically it has a good history and seems pretty sound (touch wood). It is loaded to the gills with almost every possible extra which to be honest I'm not that bothered with, but everything works so that's a bonus! The choice of Autobiography was more 'right price, right time' rather than being something I searched for.

A nice bit of history is that the first owner appears to have been Jackie Stewart.

Don't forget the main gearbox flush. I had mine Megaflushed to replace all the oil. No filter. Martin Hind at Dartford Transmissions and Autocare is your man. Thanks everyone. The moment I woke up this morning I was straight out to check for any fluid on the floor and to make sure the suspension hadn't dropped at all. It seems to have made it through the night without issue. Hopefully the paranoia will subside at some point!

Rob - thanks for your help and advice along the way too. It has already had a gearbox fluid change (multiple changes rather than flush) along with new filter but I will probably look to mega flush in the spring anyway. It has already seen Martin Hind too although for work unrelated to the gearbox.

Is it "bone dry" underneath? That's a big giveaway for an cooler issues. Mind you I had a leaky 2nd turbo too which added to the symptoms

2011 Vogue SE 4.4 with lots of toys in Stornaway

Ah now that's the next stage of the question that I hope to confirm the answer to asap. Bone dry with undertrays in place and having looked right down the back of the engine onto said trays.

With that I'm trying to win at least a week of enjoying the car before I go further, but I will go further. I'm also planning to book it an at my local specialist for a once over to create a 'shopping list' of preventative maintenance to start budgeting for/factoring in. I'm reasonably handy with a spanner so some I can do at home, some I will let the specialist do such as I'm pretty sure it would benefit from a proper alignment as it just had all of the suspension/subframe bushes change but no alignment since and the OSF tyre is wearing prematurely on its outer edge.
