No valet key. Why?

Hi Everyone,

I just realized that my '09 RR doesn't have a valet key. Not that the seller lost it. It never had one!

Not that I've used them much in the past but I've always assumed that all cars came with them.

What does Land Rover figure we'll do without one? Giving your key to the valet will give them full access to the whole car. With the valet key you could at least lock something in the glovebox or trunk (for sedans).

Just seems odd to me.

Thanks!

The last cars that I owned that had a separate key for the glovebox and boot were my 1971 Hillman Hunter and 1984 Land Rover 110 (centre cubby box and rear door for it).

In over 60 years of driving, I’ve never had my car parked by a valet service. Ron B. VK2OTC

Wow! My current cars, a 2006 Honda Pilot and 2020 Mazda CX-5, both have a valet key. Former cars with a Valet key include our old 2007 Infinity G35, 2009 Honda CR-V, 2006 Honda Civic, 2000 VW Cabrio and even my 1990 BMW 325iC. I think the last car (besides my new-to-me Range Rover) I had without a valet key was my 1973 Honda Civic.

Just seems odd to me.

Thanks!

you have a valet setting in the main menu screen using this will only let the car start and drivers door open
you have to have gotten things you need out the car before setting as I found out whilst going on hols

physical valet keys aren't widely used in the UK and as said above, use the electronic screen valet setting... ... - .- -.

Wow this has been interesting.

I'd bet that I could count on one hand the number of times I've used valet services in my 40+ years of driving. It's not that it's something that I need but was worried that I was missing a key to my newly purchased '09.

As for the "valet mode," I believe that was a feature introduced in the '10 MY. I went through my owners manual and haven't found any mention of it.

Thanks for all of your input!

Never a good idea to leave valuables in the car anyway Wink

And no key required, I can 'valet' lock my glovebox.

Still wouldn't leave valuables in the car Wink

I just remembered my 1965 Hillman Super Minx also had a separate glovebox key. Our 2009 Subaru doesn't and neither did our 2005 and 2008 Subarus. Ron B. VK2OTC
