That sounds like a hell of a lot of work compared to just getting one with the options fitted. RSE was the best part of £2500. I’m sure you could retro fit both, but not gonna be cheap or easy. To be fair, mine has RSE and I’ve used it once in 5 years. Wished I had the 1200w hifi, as I listen to music every journey.

Was the camera setup part of the Vision Assist pack?

Re the cameras, my car has them and I really don't think they are that amazing or useful. The reversing camera is the important one but all the later cars have that.

Same as above. Mine has them, no real use other than reverse camera.
Also blind spot mirrors, again, no real need.
Same with RSE, only used for novelty value.

Surround cameras were a must have for me as our X-Trail has them and they're brilliant.

Now that I've got them on my L322, 'brilliant' is not a term I would use to describe them and I can't remember the last time I used them. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

As others have said,

the 1200W hifi is definitely something I'm glad I've got, and appreciate it every time I drive.

RSE was an absolute must for me when purchasing.. but it's rarely been used once I bought it. I'm still glad I've got it though.
I did (shortly after purchase), manage to get a google chromecast running through it, and working via a phone hotspot. which was a bit more useful for streaming media through it.

deployable steps are another 'must', but easy to add them later ( as I did)

As above, I am however missing the superior sound system. It is something I am looking to add when I find a donor vehicle.
Recently fitted deployable steps.
But otherwise, mine seems to have all the other boxes ticked already.

Is the Chromecast for Audio? I've been trying to get an ipad to work as a video source (as the DVD player is u/s) and it works sometimes with a couple of adaptors but not reliably enough for the kids' liking so I'd be interested in hearing about any other methods. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

I’ve had chrome cast running on mine using the Av inputs in the middle.
Not the best setup. Ideally want to view on front screen too with chromecast hidden away in the boot.

I've set the Chromecast up for full video streaming.

I bought an HDMI to AV converter (about £20 on ebay IIRC) and connect to the AV plugs in the rear of the centre console.
You also need to get USB power to it, but that's easy enough from any of the cigarette lighter sockets.

From memory, the main issue, is that Chromecast is wifi streaming rather than bluetooth, so you need chromecast to be on the same WiFi as the device streaming the media. I have 2 phones, one work and one personal, so I got round this by setting up a WiFi hotspot on one phone, and connecting the Chomecast and my other phone to that same hotspot.

So the cable runs were a bit messy, and the wifi a bit fiddly at first, but it all worked fine. If I was going to use it a lot, I would probably look into a cleaner, more hidden installation, but for me (at the moment) it's not worth it.
It all sits in a bag in the glovebox. It's only 3 AV plugs and the lighter socket to plug in, and then it's all up and running.

hope that helps.
