Idle speed going up and down then cutting out

Hi guys,

A friend of mine asked me for help with his RR, but don't know anything about L405 (mine is a L322)

Anyone able to offer pointers?


Hi I have a Range Rover 2015 autobiography SDV8.
I have a serious issue with the car idling up and down until it dies while I’m driving and stationery. The problem occurs only when I drive low speed, sometimes it goes into restricted power mode but when I turn it on and off the restricted mode goes off.
I had the DPF removed, and the diagnostic shows no error.

Any help please or anyone who is an expert on these as I am from the midlands I can go to.

Below is a recording I made of the problem.



I don't see a way to attach a video here - but it shows it idling at around 650, then revving to ~1200 for a couple of seconds, then coming back down again.
(I'll try and add stills from the vid.)

I think the first question has to be, why was the DPF removed? 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

Dirty MAF? Fuel pump blockage? Injectors?

He did say that the place he took it that don't seem to be able to fix it: "the guy cleaned a something which had carbon on it and still doesn’t get fixed"

I assume that would be the maf


I'm thinking more recommendations for a good expert to take it to (near Birmingham) would be the best solution.

(My friend isn't technical, and happy to take to a garage. Where he has taken it so far seems to be guessing at what's wrong.)

I thought that - I will ask.

I know he hasn't had it that long, so could have been a previous owner.......

Can you ask your friend if the 4 x 4 screen comes on once it stalls ? Of so it a known fault and a cheap and easy fix.
