Rear door not opening

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and resolved it before i start pulling the door apart.

The drivers side rear door will intermittently not unlock and open.
I can hear the central locking motor “clicking” but when you pull the external handle the door won’t open as it is still locked.
The central locking button inside the door lights as locked and pressing it does not unlock the door.
All the other central locking buttons inside the car work normally and anytime you lock or unlock the car you can hear the solenoid on that door operate the same as the other doors.

If I pull the interior handle the door opens, the indicator light on the button extinguishes to indicate it is unlocked and i can open and close the door normally but as soon as you lock the car again that door locks and often stays locked unless you pull the interior handle or press unlock on the fob more than once.

It is intermittent as sometimes it unlocks normally.

Any ideas or experience of this appreciated.

I replaced both rear Door locks on my TD6 due to this. Not at the same time, they both failed within a few months of each other.

I think there is a way to get the rear door open from the side of the latch, ie with the front door open, but that’s just from memory.

Check the battery.

Mine started doing this as well as throwing up other faults now and then. Battery was getting to the end of its life.

I had a similar issue with the front passenger door - same symptoms as you have except mine wouldn't open from the inside or outside. Did a lot of searching and eventually found some Land rover site in the US that suggested this is a problem with the soft close doors and can be fixed with ECU update. I checked and although my car didn't have any ECU faults the GAP tool did indicate that an update was available for the passenger front door module. I contacted Patrick at GAP and he sent me an ECU flash for the door module which I applied. Initially that didn't work but I then did the ECU reset (battery terminals) and that cleared the fault. I'm not sure if an ECU reset would have cleared the fault (might be worth trying that first) without the ECU flash but the combination seems to have worked.
