Steering wheel replacement & heat

So my L322 steering wheel had the dreaded red light flash and go off with no heat. If you have the option to have heat you definitely want it working.

Put a post out on herefor parts and massive shoutout to @highroller for sourcing me a steering wheel that heated. Quick swap out and now I have nice warm hands

I know people have removed steering wheels before and what with the air bag it can be daunting but if I can do it trust me anyone can. Few little tips I found unseful from removing a wheel for the first time.

1. BATTERY OFFFFFF (dont want an exploding bag going off)
2. I used allan keys. Yes two, one for each side and different sizes. I dont know why this is but the eight hole popped out pretty much first try. Slide the allan key in and pull it towards u so the pin slides in flat. Ypu will feel it resist a little then go in further.
3. Pull the allan key out and it will fully engage but do this once you have released both sides.
4. Left hole with the same allan key just would not engage. 15 mins and it wasnt playing ball so leaving the other allan key in on the right hole I got another key but one size thinner. Booom slid in hit ressitance pushed it and it popped out.
5. Remove both keys and you are ready to remove the airbag.
6. Once all cables are disconnected I used a pen to mark where the wheel is although it has homing pins so cant really move the wheel out of align if you have locked the column.

I did this process twice as I wanted to test if the wheel or module was at fault. Soung the above the second time I had the wheel off in 2 mins.

Pics of allan keys used and sizes so you can do it easier and in less than 5 mins. One guy said he took 3 hours. Stuff that.

Hopefully, it is helpful for someone. I watched a lot of vids on it and you know they always look easy on the video as they have done it a few times. Probably took them hours first time. I was impressed that I did it all so quickly. The tools are probably the key part here. If I had used the same one on each side I think I would still be there now trying. Current Cars

Who did the recovering? Assume you had to send the wheel off? Can I be cheeky and ask how much for future reference of course Current Cars

It was around £150. I paid a bit more on top of that for them to source a wheel so I wasn’t without one
