Afternoon everyone I’m looking to buy a 2012 vogue se or an autobiography and am hoping that you could as steer me in the right direction as to what to look out for on the 4.4 and it’s faults many thanks 🙏🏻

I've had my 2012 Vogue with 77k for about 6 weeks now and it's back with the dealer for the second time for new front suspension arms and has previously had the oil cooler leak sorted.

I'd say try and have a couple of test drives as it's easy to get carried away with the enthusiasm of a new car and miss things, and although I was listening out for knocks and rattles it only became apparent when on rough surfaces after I'd picked it up.

I looked underneath mine but missed the leak as it was in the middle at the back of the engine under tray so take a torch!

Obviously press every button and check every function works then go through them all again. Things like folding mirrors, heated screens, seat heating can be easy to miss. Sit in the car and take your time, there's a lot to take in.

Study the service history. Mine had already had a front arm, drop link and offside front suspension strut along with new shocks on the back and new front brembo callipers which are very expensive along with the all normal service items.

Check the light clusters are all working. Previous owner had replaced a rear one as it was flagged up on an MOT as having water in it and half the LEDs not functioning. Think it was £300+ from a main dealer.

Check the MOT history online and check anything as an advisory has been fixed or use it as a bargaining point.

Just my two penneth worth but hope it helps.

All valid points.

Buy on condition and history. Don’t be too fussy about spec, nice as these things are they are just more to go wrong, the Vogue is a nice place to sit as well so if you find a mint Vogue against a slightly inferior VSE, take the vogue. None of these are new now and are mostly at the age where they will all need a bit of work at some point, so beware ones where the owners have decided to get shut to avoid paying for bits and bobs to be done. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Following might be in the Market myself for one of the last L322 either a 5.0 or 4.4 so joined to look for items to look out for or even anything on the classifieds

Not new to Land Rover ownership and still have a 109 and 110 V8 so o know they will have issues and not naive that they won’t be a little heavy on the service costs

On the link with the turbos (4.4) does that effect them all? Or was there a modified part fitted later ?

As NMJ states, buy on condition and history, nothing is guaranteed but it minimises risk imo. I've just bought a similar 3.6, sales miles with extensive service history and in A1 condition. Time will tell but lovely car. 2009 Range Rover Vogue 3.6TDV8, Bournville, Parchment/Navy

Unless you can negotiate a good deal I wouldn't buy one at the moment. The asking prices seem sky-high compared to one year ago.

But if you must; contrary to some of the other I would say you are right to focus as a basis on the VSE or Autobiography. I'd make certain you get one with semi-aniline leather. It is the only one fitting for a Range Rover in my opinion, the Oxford leather is just like any leather you find in any car. And you also get more leather on dash, roof line etc.

With more and more towns and cities having ULEZ under review I also wouldn't be so certain about a diesel especially at current inflated asking prices.

Can you give some examples? Though I know the classic RR is also high on price at the moment

I live out in the sticks and do little town driving I was wondering if the market was a little softer given they will be sitting on drives a little

Personally I will buy on condition, service history over any extra leather or rear entertainment pack (that’s probably out of date) it’s the drive train and driving experience that I want mainly

Trade in is strong against used examples as dealers are desperate for used stock as they aren’t getting the trade ins they usually do because new build stock isn’t coming in quickly to be traded against. This is driving the market at the moment. Eg, my 2016 AB 4.4 sdv8 was 41k when I got it in Feb similar model now with similar mileage is now 9/10 months later is more

Oil and water leak from the oil cooler.
Very hard to see and I brought mine this time last year and could not get right underneath to see it had a leak
The only time I knew was after the trip home from Milton Keynes and then smelt the oil Embarassed Sad
Which was heart sinking but my best mate owns a garage and my boy works there so lucky for me really
