2016 Range Rover Vogue TDV6 Loire Blue
L322 at last, now with added L405!

I have just bought a 2004 TD6 Vogue. Silver with charcoal leather. Ever since the L322 was introduced I have liked the look of it and at last I have one.

Range Rovers started for me in 2002, when sorting out a blown head gasket on my 1993 Mercedes 300TE 24v was taking forever. I found and bought a 1985 Range Rover 3.5 carb with a 3 speed auto as a temporary car. I loved it and in 2004 I bought a lovely black 1989 3.5 EFi Vogue SE as my main car to replace a 1998 Audi A6 2.4SE Tiptronic. I loved it, but the 18mpg hurt and a year later I went back into a Mercedes saloon. In December 2005, a friend wanted my Mercedes so I had to find myself a replacement car. We looked at several Mercedes E320 estates but they were either rusty or low spec., so I said to my wife we could always have another Range Rover... she said yes, so we bought a 1997 Range Rover 4.6 HSE. It played up a bit and we took several large bills and 16 mpg, but I loved it and kept it for five years.

Now I have the TD6 Vogue and still have and use the temporary 1985 3.5 carb.! For a week I owned the P38 as well, so had three Range Rovers... unfortunately it was a snowy week and not ideal for taking photos, but I did manage a couple just to show when I owned three generations of Range Rovers!

The future: my wife is not keen on the charcoal interior, as I had lightstone before - and I would like a V8 diesel engine, so one day

Chris

I have now towed for the first time with my TD6, the boat is a 23 foot Trail boat designed for inland waterways with ramp launch and weights 2 tons on its trailer. While as a car the TD6 lacked some go compared the 4.6 petrol P38 I had before, for towing that torque really feels good and the much criticized heavy kerb weight just takes it a class above the P38.

2016 Range Rover Vogue TDV6 Loire Blue

So an update.

In January this year I bought a 2016 TDV6 Vogue to replace my 2004 that I had had 10 years, it was unfortunately falling apart and rusting quite badly. I wanted a dark blue and biscuit interior L405 like the P38 I had and the only one was in Inverness over 500 miles away. So an aeroplane was involved and a stop over in Bathgate to meet friends back in the days when you could.

I have only driven it about 2000 in the year because of the way the world is 2020.

Big likes compared to L322:
How quiet the TDV6 is compared to the TD6
33 mpg instead of 22 mpg
Improved headlights

Big Dislikes compared to L322:
The gear selector
Not as easy to get into because windscreen pillar slopes more
TV keeps shutting down if engine not running

We still have the boat but have not had the chance to take it out this year so have not compared towing a 2 ton sail yet. I have moved a SJ for a friend and tow started our small dumper, but that hardly tested it.

I still have the green classic which I was planning to get back on the road this year, but 2020! I did have the L322 and L405 both for a month, brain said ware the old one out first so I kept driving the L322.

I plan to keep the L405 for many years, I wonder how may suspension pumps/airbags I will get through!
