Webasto auxiliary heater playing up

Hi guys, need some info from a Webasto expert. Here are the details before we get started. My car is a 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8. The auxiliary heater uses a T91 Telestart receiver.

When I bought the car three months ago, the aux heater worked, I swear to god. I did not have a remote, so I purchased the official and correct LR remote from dealer down south. I paired the remote with the T91 receiver in the rear right as the docs said - pull fuse, wait 5 sec, insert fuse and press off button. Remote paired.

Since the remote has been paired it is able to operate the unit, however it barely heats anymore, I would say it doesn't at all. Here are the symptoms, please help:

The unit starts per remote or per timer but does NOT blow through the vents into the cabin, JUST the defrost vents at the windscreen
Same when operated by timer. HOWEVER, the timer touchscreen menu does NO LONGER show the field for heat or vent available for choice. They appear GREYED and cannot be operated.
When operating the remote I can not switch between green and red operating LED by pressing both off and on at the same time.

I looked up in handbook which fuse would be the heater and it only lists the fuse box inside the gloveboy, not the one in the engine compartment.

Last but not least: for those who recommend I'd go to Strathearn Engineering in Aberuthven, I was there last week for other car work and despite all of the above the mechanic said "it worked" and that he got "heat". I don't think so.

Help? 2011 L322 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

From the workshop manaul:

(Operates the distribution doors in the heater assembly to direct the air to the footwells for approximately 30
seconds, then to either only the windscreen, or to both the footwells and the windscreen, depending on the
ambient air temperature.)

My TSD also has the timed option correctly visible but the on demand sections are greyed out. Is this true of yours. I've put that down to having a working remote and/or not reactivating them with the iiD.

Many of the threads on here advise to ensure your battery is in good condition and at full charge, I have found the same. Your tank needs to be at least 1/4 full, more is better. Check also your charging voltage. Do you use the car for short runs or leave standing for a fair while? Access to a CTek or similar to maintain charge?

Start the car from cold and check the FBH exhaust gets HOT. Under the front nearside wheel arch. That'll tell you if the FBH runs to assist engine heating.

And have a read of the WM section on auxuilliary heating in the Wiki if you haven't already done so. You'll be able to then check what's going on and hopefully others will be along with more help. There's a huge amount of threads on this problem, usually about this time of year Smile Cheers

Sorry I did not specify. I had a brand new OEM correct battery installed when I bought it specifically for that reason. Yes, fuel is 3/4 full or full. 2011 L322 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

That's good, so one area should be OK. How about the rest? Cheers

My understanding (for the late facelift models anyway) is that it auto detects whether to heat or vent depending on ambient temperature. You can't set it via the remote. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

Sounds like it needs reactivated if it’s greyed out on the touchscreen menu?
Do you have the iid tool?the option is there

I'm assuming the OP has, from his post, the same, and the correct operation of the timed section, but not the heat or vent on demand from the screen. Mine runs well, on timed or remote. (that's put the cat among the pigeons now). If I have a remote why would I need the on demand on the TSD? If you are in the car and start it, then the FBH will turn on in the demanded mode. Cheers

Fair enough worth reactivating with the iid tool as the fuse was removed so might work

I am in the same boat.
Mine came with a remote but it has never got the vehicle warm.
Even a few back to back activations produces no heat.

I have had issues twice with the changeover valve not getting the cabin warm with engine coolant but that has now been sorted.

Mine sounds like it runs for 30 seconds or so then switches off. Can hear the blower motor going for full run time.

I'm going to check the coolant pump is working properly.
I can definitely hear it but could be going the wrong way.

Well, no, I do not have an iiD tool nor has this been done. It has been at Strathearn Engineering who are LR specialists who said "it's working" and that they "got it to switch on" and that they "got it warm". But it is never warm. Here are the symptoms:

The vent/heat areas fields on the TSD WERE there to press and I DID check out the workings of both BEFORE I had the remote paired
Those areas are now grey and can no longer be activated
I also had a leak in the T where the coolant gets re-directed to the heater (I have now been told). That T has been replaced and the leak is gone. I have no idea what impact that would have on the TSD thought. Hence my thinking it is indeed electrical more than mechanical.

When I press the remote the system does start, you can hear it and it clicks but it only blows out the windscreen vents and not into the cabin. is that how it normally works? I would be expecting it to blow out of the dash vents - warm.

Also, I remember having seen exhaust fumes in the wheelarch. I haven't since.

Do we have Scottish members on here with an iiD who could help and have a look?

Try this: Turn both temp dials up to max heat the night before. Next day, press the remote as usual and after 15mins go and see if that's made a difference.
I swear it makes a difference on mine by whacking them on full the night before

I will do that. And I'd be interested what it does. HOWEVER, before that wasn't necessary AND it wouldn't explain where the choice between heat and vent, that was "tippable" on the TSD, where that has gone. 2011 L322 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

The MY11 was an FBH victim of JLR being too clever for their own good.
AGM battery lives on its knees. Never fully charged.....down to the new clever (I say dumb) battery management ECU.
11s were re-programmed after complaints to run for 17 minutes down from 30. Drivers objected to getting into nice warm cars with flat batteries that would not start you see .....
Priority was re focused on heating engine and clearing windscreen, not to heat cabin.

There are a few members that claim warm cabins after the FBH has cycled.
17 minutes IMHO is not enough to also warm the cabin.
Mine clears windscreen and leaves cabin tepid.

Now, my MY10. Wow. Left the cabin proper toastie. None of this AGM clever charging nonsense. Good old fashioned lead acid. 30 minutes.

If you want to see how it works. Do this.
Get in the car. Wait 5 minutes until electrics shut down.
Then fire up the FBH using the remote fob whilst you are still inside.
Should run between 17 and 18 minutes.
Footwell and screen only.
You will hear the fuel pump ticking as the FBH fires up.
On mine, it takes a couple of minutes before I hear the ticking.

If battery voltage is low, the FBH will shut down early with a message to start car, low battery voltage.
