2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue

Quick clean up with the hoover, a small handheld wire brush and a micro fibre cloth this evening left me with this:

Much better then I was expecting having seen last nights picture.

Everything was then given a coating of Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 and left for the evening looking like this:

Need to order the Epoxy Mastic from Bilt Hamber tomorrow so that I can get it painted at the weekend.

Decided at 16.30 this afternoon I was going to drive to Wales this evening to get the valve clearances set on the Range Rover cylinder heads.

Last minute annual leave submitted and approved at work, few jobs done, cylinder heads loaded into the boot of the C6, bite to eat and we set off at 21:30. Roads were absolutely dead, definitely the perfect time to travel.

Night in a hotel before dropping them off in the morning. They’re being dropped off in Queensferry on the North Wales border but I think we’re going to head to Pentrefoelas to visit family whilst we’re down before heading for home tomorrow evening

Thursday night saw us drive from Glasgow to Chester.

Heads were dropped off in Queensferry just after 9am this morning and we ventured over to Pentrefoelas in North Wales to see my Aunt and Uncle. After a day there we’ve stopped with family in Newton-Le-Willows for dinner this evening and heading back to Glasgow tomorrow morning.

Gutted the RR is off the road as it’d have been a lovely run in it but I’m hoping now we’re just a few weeks away from having her consuming V-Power like it’s going out of fashion 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Sorting out the heads and a mini holiday seeing family, all in one, job sorted

Most times when I have driven to / from Glasgow I usually start out the drive in the evening, traffic is a lot lighter then and drive quite pleasant. Hope you have / had a brilliant weekend

PS - I just had a new look at V-power prices, the drive in the C6 must have saved you a fortune

It did indeed.

The 3.0 HDI in the C6 averaged 41mpg over just shy of 700 miles

It’s a nice and comfy way to travel too. Good stereo, double glazing and hydraulic suspension make it a very enjoyable place to munch miles in a cost effective manner. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

2007 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Buckingham Blue

Brilliant I was up in Fife a week ago did it from door to door in 6 hrs but didnt get anywhere near 20 let alone plus 40 mpg still it was a pleasant journey up and back down.
Won't be long now David until the v power sales in your neck of the woods go through the roof

On Thursday last week I found someone locally breaking an L322. Thankfully they had no objection to me attacking it with an angle grinder

I cut the boot floor out and cut a few other bits and piece out to put my car back together properly.

First up was the bracket that secures the jack at the back of the spare wheel well.

The one on my car had been cut to allow the tank to fit properly under the boot floor.

Tonight I drilled the spot welds off the one I removed from the other car to leave me with just the plate.

Tomorrow I’ll do the same to the one on the car to remove that. I don’t fancy welding inside the car, especially into a channel that’s hidden with no access from the rear so I’m thinking of either using pop rivets or rivnuts with bolts to resecure it to the car. Possibly with some panel bond or similar behind it to stop any possible vibrations causing it to work loose.

I also got an unused jack and wheel brace to go with it.

I also managed to get the webbing that lifts the spare wheel out of the well and the bracket that stops the tailgate closing.

One of the reasons I cut the boot floor out was to get the bars that are mounted to the floor to mount the compressor to. You can see them in the picture above and can see that they’re missing from my car.

Tonight I’ve removed them from the donor floor and mounted the compressor to them to get the spacing correct and have then put the compressor in the spare wheel well to mark out the correct locations to mount the compressor back to the floor.

I’m going to tidy up the floor and then weld some brackets to the runners so that I can mount them back to the boot floor without welding again. Thinking of rivets and panel bond to secure these back to the boot floor as well as they were only spot welded at the front and the rear.

I also managed to get the little storage cubby that secures to the floor that holds the wheel chocks in place.

Been checking my email repeatedly today waiting for the email telling me the heads are ready to collect.

Might as well put it back to standard properly

Got a proper Supercharged spare wheel with a good tyre off Gumtree locally a few months ago too 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Had another delivery from Duckworths today.

Previously the LPG switch was mounted at the bottom of the centre console. When I removed the kit I removed the trim piece as the old one had a hole in it.

A new one was only £7 so that gets that bit back together

Someone has definitely had my car apart before. The short bolt at the top is the one I removed from the exhaust manifold. The correct one is at the bottom. It should also have the metal spacer on them too.

I also got a new relay for the EAS compressor as they recommend replacing that when fitting a new compressor. This new compressor is less then 2 years old and was originally supplied with a new relay so for 12 quid that’s being changed.

I also needed the bolt to secure the spare wheel to the new compressor casing. Following picture stolen from eBay.

On eBay people are asking for 15-18 quid for these. From Duckworths they were £8.

So it was basically a bag of nuts and bolts from Duckworths with a price tag of £100.

I’ll be glad when I get this finished now as the engine work has cost a fortune:

Timing Chains, Guides & Tensioners - £750
Head Gaskets, Inlet Gaskets & Seals - £700
Cylinder Heads - £700
Camshafts - £465
Setting Valve Clearances - £400
Valve Cover Gaskets & Seals - £130
New Spark Plugs - £85
Oil & Genuine Filter - £70

And then an awful lot of time.
