Do you have an idea about the kind of $$$ it could cost? |

Just run away from that car and forget about it. Unless you are handy with a spanner and perhaps only buy it for 2,000€ and hope you are lucky, otherwise run.

Find another one. That's trouble & the dealer is just trying to get rid of it. |

From the noises I’ve heard of these engines before, that sounds like the bearings at the rear of the Supercharger that are knackered. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

I’m sure I read on the Jaguar forum I’m on that the Supercharger needs replacing. Not sure on cost though I’m afraid. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

The seller finally agreed to change the supercharger before the sale.

Do not leave a deposit until you have heard it when fixed, then get a full independent examination done on it and a decent warrantee, If you don't do the work yourself these can be a money pit...

as said above, don't pay a deposit until you know it's fixed. (or ensure that any deposit you pay is fully returnable if you're not happy)
