My point is that not all things are equal and while many areas of engineering are black and white, there is a middle ground or grey area where judgement is needed.

Analogy time again and for this I will assume you're a) a male under 80 and b) been to a Kart track at least once in your life; a trip to any commercial Kart track will offer the chance to race against your friends and see just who if the fastest. But is the outcome of your race purely down to your skill..? What of the Karts - they are all the same make with the same chassis and engines and varying ages, maintained the same as much as possible. Cam

Sorry you have lost me...
The topic was concerned with removal of the EGR valve and DPF from the TDV8 4.4 engine - can this be done and does it improve performance or fix any problems. From all the evidence I've seen it's no to all 3. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Hi Craig, where can I get a set of EGR blanks for the 4.4? I've looked in the usual places and only see the 3.6 ones, are they the same? (Just got an '11 4.4) Cam

Nobody sells them. It seems from a lot of reading that 4.4 should be left alone but I’m no engineer Rolling with laughter Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Shouldn't be difficult to make your own. The EGR inlet is easy to access on the left side of the intake. There is only one EGR valve on the 4.4. You will need to remove the throttle plate otherwise the ECU will try to shut the intake to create negative pressure to overcome low EGR gaslfow. Good luck...... Whistle 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

It's getting a remap which deletes the EGR in software. I just want to physically blank them as well. Cam

AFAIK a 'software EGR delete' still allows it to function during startup and DPF regeneration so maybe physically blanking it may not be wise unless you are also having the DPF removed? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

The EGR valve gets closed during DPF regen, not opened and the exercising after the engine has stopped doesn't require any gas flow. If EGR is mapped out to never open while the engine is running then best to blank the tube in case of valve leakage.

I will never remove mine's throttle butterfly as mine is required for my runaway protection which closes the butterfly for a short period at engine switch-off. A fault code for the 3.6 indicates that its ecm will close its butterflies for unexplained engine operation but I haven't found any evidence that the 4.4 does the same.

Cheers Rob.

I got the remap with EGR delete. The DPF will still regen as and when required, but should be much less often with the EGR no longer in use. Interestingly enough, the remap has removed the P040d fault code (EGR temp sensor A) and unsurprisingly the fuel consumption has improved dramatically. The engine note changed too and is much quieter now.

All in all, quite happy with the result. Cam

Your foot note says you have a 2008 tdv8 so no DPF anyway or have you not updated it.
