How to remove lower glovebox if opener fails?

Hi Everyone,

I had to remove the lower glovebox on my '09 L322 (needed to remove the radio/navigation display).

While I had it out I accidently shut it. Since it only opens electrically I had to disassemble the electrical latch. Not a big deal.

But, to remove the glovebox you need to be able to open the glovebox.

If this latch were to fail, how would someone remove the glovebox to get access to replace this latch?

It's like a Catch-22. You have to open the glovebox to remove it to replace the latch but if the latch is broken, you can't open the glovebox?

Thanks!

Lots of things like that on cars... The door lock failure is another one, door won't open and you can't get inside the door without opening it.. !!

You just have to decide which is the cheapest part to break to fix it...

It's the same with any vehicle, not just a Land Rover issue.... Thumbs Up Pete

Yea, I suppose so.

I remember year and YEARS ago on my wifes' 2000 VW Cabrio. The tiny connector from the drivers side door lock cylinder to the internal mechanism broke so the key would just rotate with no action inside. Fortunately I was still able to open/close the car from the passenger side door. Turns out that this part had been upgraded by VW since it was not strong enough. DUH! In this case I was able to fix it without having to break anything.

Just one of the MANY reasons why I'll never buy any VAG vehicles ever again. It was a nice car for the first few years but then it became obvious that every part is just slightly under-engineered. I've seen this same type of issue on VW, Audi and Porsche vehicles between myself and many friends.

On the positive side, in my 2+ months of ownership of my FF I've found that most jobs have more parts to remove to get access to stuff. But they are all engineered well enough that they can be removed/installed multiple times without breaking. I've had many cars where parts that are supposed to be removed snap clips and stuff and I end up having to replace a lot of them.

Thanks,
