THat's a very basic spec. I priced one up with just the bare minimum of extras I would want and it was over £65k. Still too much.

If that’s what you get for £81k what do you get for £43k Shocked

I appreciate the one in the video has got the most expensive engine variant, but there didn’t appear to be much else that warranted an £81k price tag.

I think it’s a really good looking vehicle and no doubt an off road champion but how Land Rover have come up with these price tags is beyond me.

Interesting that they've dropped all the 4 cylinder engines. The lowest spec one now is a 3 litre straight six diesel with only 200bhp. Shocked

I'm sure the same could be said fo the G Wagon though, which must be some of the market sector LR are hoping to get into.

The straight 6 in place of the Ingenium 4 really does make all of the difference to making this a premium product. I'd hate to have bought one of the first year's production 4's and then seen this!

The military stopped buying the LR years ago. It's all about specialist protected vehicles now.

If you look at the basic Defender it's priced about like for like with a Toyota Land Cruiser basic short wheelbase and that's only a 2.8 litre 4 with a much more basic auto.

I understand that, but 200bhp from a 3 litre straight six is TD6 territory.

I find it only being 200 bhp very encouraging. It’s a low peak power output for a 3.0 litre Ingenium diesel, so it’s likely to be retuned for massive torque.

It makes 369lb ft at 1250rpm. The 4 cylinder made 317lb ft at 1400, so yes a lot better on torque.

And looking at the performance numbers the 3.0 is better. It's also only 35kg heavier.

What's more surprising is the 3.0 has an official 37.2 mpg where as the 2.0 has only 31.4. The 3.0 beats the 2.0 on emissions also.

So either they've really done some work on the straight six, and/or the 4 cylinder is well out of date.

As a mild hybrid, the 3.0 might, possibly, have been tuned to perform at its best under the conditions of the official test cycles. It still looks promising though.
