United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover SVAutobiography 5.0 SC V8 Waitomo Grey
[sold] L322 5.0 SC Autobigraphy with Timing Issue/fault

Just exploring my options here. I typically buy my cars at 5 years/c 60k miles and sell them on at 10years/120k miles, so I expected to be selling next Feb/March not now. However, I've had the restricted performance BONG and the diagnosis is timing chain issue on bank 1 (drivers side). The car is booked in to have the work done, but this cant happen until early March at the earliest. I'm finding it awkward without a fully functional car. So I'm considering bringing forward my purchase of the next one, if I can find someone to take this one off my hands as is.

The car is a 2012 5.0 SC Autobiography with 108k miles. Orkney Grey with Parchment leather incl roof lining. Special Carbon look trim finishers covered in this topic https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic42403.html. It has the factory body kit; removeable towbar; deployable steps; heated and cooled seats throughout, incl rear with recline function. It has all of the usual AB toys and options with the exception of rear seat entertainment if that's important to you.

Condition wise its very good but not perfect. It took me some time to find one this good in 2017, and I always look after my cars. Full Service History including the bills so you can see what's been done - mainly Main Dealer but more recently Indies. Everything works as far as I know other than this current engine fault. There are a few minor bubbles in the paint - mostly around the window frames and a couple on panels - but the overall impression is IMO still very good for a 9 year old car that's been around the clock. It will be on a 12 reg as I'll take my number off.

The specific fault shown by the IID tool is: P0017-00(ae) Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position correlation Bank 1 Sensor 2. Its been investigated by my local indie and he says timing chain issue - passenger side fine, drivers side all over the place. So its probably at least worn guides/tensioners, but may also need new chains.

With no fault declared, the WBAC offer was £12395.
The ballpark estimate to get the fault fixed at a trusted indie on here is £4k based on what they charged for the last one they did - this is where its booked in.

If anyone might want it as is in the short term for £8500 then let me know and we can exchange any further info required. I've no recent pics of the car available but obviously I can sort that if anyone is genuinely interested. I just didn't want to bother if I'm keeping the car!

If the light is not in when WBAC inspect it, then it should not be a problem to sell to them?

Not the way I like to be.

In any case, the light is on all of the time. I can clear the fault but it reappears as soon as I restart. Mike - MPx

In fact, all my cars are in tip top condition and I would never knowingly sell a car that had a fault, unless I mentioned it Smile
The reason I brought it up was because WBAC was mentioned in the post and when I sold my Merc CL500 to WBAC, they check for any warning lights on start up. I asked what happens if the light normally comes on but doesn't come on when they start the car and was told that they only go on the condition at the point of sale. Normally they are shipped off to auction immediately so it's a numbers game for them

Same spec as mine without the rust and or the super charger mine is a 4.4 TDV8 and sub 100k miles.
I would shop around to get it fixed and then sell it on?

Thanks 24valve - it is indeed.

They are great cars Tinman - sounds like you've got a good'en even if it is an oil burner Wink If I get mine fixed (ie if I've still got it by March) then I'll be keeping it another year. We all move on from time to time and the next 5 or 6 weeks without the car in use will be a challenge, hence trying to come up with a plan to move quicker. Mike - MPx

I have only just bought mine, I was looking for months I had £40k in my pocket so was looking at the l405 AB.

Then I kept looking at the one I have? and worked out that the deprecation on a £40k car after 18 mounts and what I paid for my one and it was a no brainer, sitting in the car you are just in luxury not much difference sitting in a l405?

When I sold my SE I did not think I would get another but after driving around in other makes well? you must know what I mean?

The way things are going may be better to fix your car and wait the year out as you said Thumbs Up

That's a fabulous car - PM sent.

Hopefully we can chat tomorrow a little bit more about the car, with a view to me looking at it as soon as convenient to yourself.
