Any recommendations for something which will run off the 12v sockets?

I've had a few - the last one particularly good, albeit not small - one of these BritPart units - I think the double pump, but I'm not at home to check. Mist baller units I've tried tend to get a bit warm and/or fail when asked to deal with FFRR tyres.

However, I've since found a revelation..... I give you the DeWalt 18v Inflator, which is with me on my travels

That's a bare uniting assumes you are already into the DeWalt eco system and have a battery & charger. If you're into a lesser system then Makita & others do similar.

An extravagant purchase, but until I just looked, I'd forgotten how much. Plug in a battery, dial in a pressure, attach to the tyre, press Start & relax.

Thanks Alastair. Looks quite a bit of kit, but my problem is that I don’t have any power tools which need a transformer or battery pack, so this is probably not for me. I just wondered if there was a half decent inflator people might recommend for use on a FFRR tyre. Most on Amazon seem to be for use on smaller wheels and judging from comments they overheat! I guess if I want something heavy duty a 12v unit is probably not the thing!

Those are fine if you can wait a week for them to inflate

Having sold these for several years, you need a decent capacity one to inflate Full Fat Tyres, a decent brand will indicate the time it takes to inflate a certain size tyre, however as stated in this post I would always check the calibration with a manual pencil gauge

I was the same - saw it on another forum, resisted for a few weeks as I have a perfectly good 12v inflater, but caved.

I tried one of those orange RAC ones - got very hot very quickly, not really unto a FFRR tyre.....

Ring RAC700 (or similar earlier model) and separate pencil gauge for me too. Smaller and cheaper ones tend to wear out pretty quickly, not really designed for big tyres like on RRs. The DeWalt one looks tempting for when the current Ring one wears out... Only Range Rovers since 1988

I have a Ring RAC635. It's a great little unit and I would recommend it. Set the pressure required and it'll cut off when it reaches the desired pressure. Kev

Second for the Britpart xs air twin cylinder. I used to do off-road trials that meant taking tyre pressure right down this could reinfkate in next to no time and do all the wheels without overheating or slowing down. Put a bit too much wood on my snack trailer and took a tyre right off the rim but the inflator coped no problem getting tyre sealed back into rim. Not small and neat but very capable. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23
