Information button on indicator stalk

Hi all. I’ve done some digging and can’t see an exact response to this. The information button on the left hand column stalk has “frozen” on range and won’t cycle through trip etc. (everything else works on the stalk) I’ve noticed there are trip functions in the electronic dash menu, by resetting these using the steering wheel button would this release the stalk button or am I clutching at straws ? Thanks in advance for help

I had this, the display would behave 'oddly' and no amount of button pushing would change the display once running, a battery disconnect/reconnect resolved it for a while but the real fix was a replacement starter battery.

Of course, it's equally possible it's something else entirely, do you have diagnostics which can display live values from body systems?

Maybe a L405 feature as mine just resets the trip meter.

I think this maybe a stalk issue, I’ve held the silver button in and nothing happens. The display won’t move off range. I have also gone into the main menu via the right hand steering wheel buttons and down to trip 1 and 2 then reset then it prompts you to hold the silver information button in which I’ve done but still nothing. Had a look on eBay for second hand stalks and some look to be a pair ( need to change both) is this correct ?

IIRC they are individual. It is a while since I did it but had them off when I fitted shift paddles. As I recall they slot into either side of a ring which is located behind the wheel.

It may be a wiring issue with yours - chaffing or the like. It’s straightforward to remove the wheel to get to them. Just a bit of a fiddle releasing the wheel. If you do it just be careful to disconnect all the connector behind the airbag. I missed the heated wheel connector and ended up with a replacement clock spring. 😃😟 John

The programming what you see by holding the stalk in came from BMW. My 1988 7 series had that feature.

My 2003 had it. Think my 2011 does, but as it has about 15 Trip and MPG functions now 🤣 none of which I know how to reset, I don’t use it anymore, which is a bit unlike me to take the time to try things but it’s just on date and mileage now.

I'll try it again while the display is on a non-trip display.

Edit: tried mine when blank and when date/mileage showing but no change.
It had been quite along time since BMW owned LR so presumably deleted with Ford upgrades.

Well whatever I’ve done on the main dash display with the steering wheel buttons I’ve managed to get it onto “trip a” and can’t change back to range now !

And there might be something on 5 here that could assist. Not sure what’s in there.
