United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue
Hi, possible new owner.

Good evening all,
I have been perusing your fine forum for a few days now reading plenty about the beautiful L322.

I've had a hankering for one for a while and I've seen a 2007 Vogue TDV8 locally with 107,000miles on for circa £10k. I'm sorely tempted.

I've already had a price for a full service including all fluids (transfer/trans/diffs etc) and the figure wasn't as depressing as I'd imagined it would be.

Now, my only problem is, I currently drive a 2008 Lexus RX400h SE-L which, being a Lexus, has been incredibly reliable. It has all the toys including rear seat entertainment etc, it's comfortable and I do enjoy it. So why am I considering swapping for an unknown FFRR with all the possible reliability issues that I could be signing up for?

Anyway, I digress, I've pretty much made my mind up that it's the car for me. Would any kind soul care to talk me out of it?

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

Smile You're asking in the wrong place. If you want to be talked out of it, post on the Lexus forum...! Graham

I was in a similar position to yourself last week. I was looking at ‘more reliable’ cars such as C6 chassis A6 Allroad, 535d, X5 etc but I couldn’t get excited by them. I then fell in love with an 07 Vogue and bought it without hesitation.

Thing is, every old car can go wrong. I bought a VW last year as I wanted something ‘reliable’ and within 4K miles the diff pin went through the gearbox casing costing me a replacement ‘box and case. At least the L322 issues are well documented and there’s a wealth of knowledgable independents out there as well as all the very helpful bids on here.

Go on, treat yourself to something special.

Thanks guys. You’ve all done a marvellous job. I’m going to head over on Saturday and do the deal assuming it’s not sold by then. Presumably I’ll be back relatively quickly for advice Smile

I’m excited but also a tad nervous.

Thanks!

No need to be nervous just find a good local indy and give him direct access to your bank account and it will be fine Laughing Rolling with laughter

Well, I went for a test drive and took it to a friends garage to look at. It needed brake pipes (he said he’d have failed it), a few suspension bits, side steps were rotten and the rear tailgate was worse that I’d thought, the rust was through the paint. Not including 4 new tyres which it’d have needed shortly it needed about £1400-1500 spending on it to make it right. So, alas, there was no deal to be done.

Keep looking, the right one will come along eventually. I walked away from many before purchasing mine.

If you do find one, I use pvh Land Rover in stokesley for all my FFRR needs, they have been there for about 30 years and always do me a great job at reasonable price. Keep looking, I had to go to Chelmsford for mine, but once you decide on the spec and colour you want, don’t let distance put you off! Just spent the morning cleaning mine and I still love it as much as the first time I drove it 2012 westminister Overfinch Obsidian Conversion

Thanks,
I'll check them out Smile

I've seen this one for £11.5k. 2008 (0Cool in Buckingham Blue down in Sheffield which looks pretty good. I'm considering a run over tomorrow to check it out. Is this a Parchment interior? I'd need to sort that drivers seat out - I'm sure I've read a thread on here somewhere about an ebay repair kit, do you think it'll come up well?

Despite the car I viewed not being up to scratch I did get a sense of what a nice one would be like and to be honest, I'm a bit smitten. It even did 28mpg on my usual commute run.

Oh no, it's sold already Big Cry

I've spotted another although it's listed with 'service history' rather than full service history. It does come with a 12 month warranty and I'd have whichever one I buy serviced properly straight away anyway. As an aside, I hate it when dealers put their plates on so you can't check the MOT history.

One issue that would have to be sorted sharpish is that it has 22" wheels on Shocked - would it be fairly easy to find someone that would swap these for standard wheels?

Cheers!

Have a good look at it & take your time. 12 months warranty is good though. If you can get hold of the chassis No then you can do an HPI check, this would give you the current MOT status, but not as good as doing a full MOT check as this lists any previous failures & advisories.
P.s does look nice.

Those look like Overfinch wheels. They can tend to crack at edges and then leak air. As well as having that "bling" or "pimped" look. I had same on mine but have gone back to "stock" rims. 19". I found someone off a well known online trading site.
