United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue
Powerful UK

Sorry mods - I'm not sure where to post this so I'll put it here Smile

I've ordered a few things from Powerful UK recently whilst I've been sorting out all the little niggles on my SC.

First thing I ordered was a viscous fan spanner. I used it once and the jaws of the spanner were badly bruised after holding the bolts of the pulley. So much so that it wouldn't slip over the nut on the fan to remove it. I had to remove the fan, then slide the spanner off afterwards.

I highlighted the issue to Powerful UK and suggested that the metal the spanner was made from was too soft. My P38 fan spanner after 15 years still looks new despite being abused with lump hammers, etc. They emailed back and offered a refund as they didn't believe a replacement was worthwhile as they were all made from the same batch.

Second thing I ordered was a set of door handle covers. These fitted great and look good on the car - no problems with this order.

The third order I placed was for Titan silver letting, a titan silver tailgate strip and a reverse camera. The reverse camera fits perfectly and seems to work great.

The titan silver tailgate strip arrived in a rigid postage tube and upon removal was badly bent.

I used the line on the tailgate as a guide and fitted it from one end to the other and it appeared to fit straight.

However, after 3 days, I noticed when walking past the car that the strip was starting to curl at the drivers side as the tension on the adhesive tape was to much for it to stay stuck.

Since this picture was taken it's progressively got worse and is now half way to touching the E in Rover.

I ordered letting from them as well. The templates that came with the lettering just didn't look quite right. We've got a 2012 L322 that we've had from new so the lettering on that was spaced at the factory and you can see when holding the template over the bonnet letters it's not right.

I've been in touch with Powerful this morning who have advised that all of their trims have a bend in them and can be manipulated to fit. However, if I'm not happy I can return it for a refund. This isn't particularly helpful as the old strip is now useless having been removed from the car.

I always try and stick to genuine parts so am not familiar with the quality that can be expected of after market stuff but this is quite disappointing.

Has anyone else experienced problems with them? Have I just been unlucky or is this normal for after market parts and my expectations are just unrealistic?

Thanks,

I've had the same problem with the Powerful UK tailgate strip. The ends constantly come unstuck due to the pressure resulting from the curve in the strip. Right PITA, but will have to wait until I find a better item to replace the Powerful supplied strip. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Current

I got new bonnet and tailgate struts, two of them had the “blue label” bit fit fine and definitely an upgrade on the worn out ones that had been fitted

I can’t comment on durability obviously, but the tube they had come in was badly bent, the postman even put a label on it but the items themselves survived

My 2011 Vogue came without the plastic front towing eye cover, the later version long one beneath the bright trim strip. It is probably still on a grass verge somewhere after the car was hauled up onto a flat bed (as if?).
I could find just a handful of used genuine covers on eBay with the cheapest at £85.00 plus shipping. PowerfulUK do a towing eye cover for £45.00 delivered. It arrived super quick in a big cardboard box and was fitted in a few minutes using the supplied turnscrew locking pins. The piece seemed very sturdy with the same textured finish as the other spoiler parts.
Like many of us I try to buy genuine parts for my cars but felt in this case a cheaper non-essential pattern part was fine.

PS - PowerfulUK has loads of 'how to fit' videos on its site and Youtube and they seem to go out of their way to show with annotated photos whether the part you want will fit your model.

The YouTube video's and the effort they put into helping owners out was the reason I purchased from them. Smile

I haven’t bought anything FFRR but did buy plenty of D3 kit which I found to be excellent all round. Trim pieces, bulbs, repeaters, DRLs etc so a reasonably representative sample.

Always found them to be great with strong customer service.

As with anything aftermarket, some things will inevitably just be a little off. It’s like pattern body parts. Some fit well others should only be fit for the bin☹️

I have bought numerous items from them for my L322, and never had any problems, always had quick efficient service, and found some of their videos really handy.

I've used them quite a few times for various items from LED interior lights to my facelift grille. I've never had a problem, personally. I also like their YouTube videos.

I hope they take your feedback on board to make those particular products better. Kev

I’ll drop him a message and ask him. Looking online, genuine ones are around £86. If it guarantees a good fit, I’ll pay the premium.

Wrt the lettering.

I suspect that powerful UK made the stencil from their L322 mule. The reason it would be different is that there’s more likely a variance from the factory between your car and theirs. Maybe LR changed the spacing. Although it’s that close i think you could call that a bit OCD.

It crossed my mind that the lettering stencil is actually correct.

I once saw a very slight variation in letter spacing on two brand new Discovery 3’s parked side by side at a dealership.
