United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Rimini Red
Battery Voltage Drop Affecting Sat Nav Operation & Voice

Hello everyone,

I wonder if I could get some help with an electrical issue.

I own a 2007 Vogue SE TDV8. I have had it for 3 years. It's my daily driver.

Everything on the car works but just recently I have noticed a few of the systems 'locking up'. When the car is left overnight and then started everything works fine. However, after the car has been used for a short while, if the car is restarted, several systems lock up. These are the sat navigation system and the voice activation system. When this happens the car also 'forgets' any voice stored information in the phone directory and the radio presets. The hardware and software are all working and up to date. There is no water in the electrical system in the boot. (Behind the left panel.)

I am wondering if this could be an electrical voltage issue? Will a drop or increase in electrical voltage after an initial start up cause the sat nav and voice systems to crash?

I have used a Icarsoft3 scanner to check the voltage of the car. I have obtained the following results;

Voltage prior to cranking the engine : 12V Minimum 11.94V
Voltage after crank with engine running : 12V Minimum 11.94V
Voltage after the engine is stopped : 13.98V Minimum 7.14V

The final set of figures did make me raise an eyebrow.

My questions are;

Does anyone think it is worth changing the battery in order to cure this fault?

Could it be an earth on the system that is dragging the voltage down enough to make everything lock up?

Could it be something else that I have missed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have searched through other forum posts but could not find anything that covered this. I apologise if I have missed anything.

Incidentally, I can thoroughly recommend the Icarsoft3 diagnostic tool.

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

I had the same issue with My Sat Nav & voice control as you are experiencing. However this was not down to the low voltage, it was a failing Sat Nav unit,

I changed the Sat Nav disc & this cured it for a while, only to have the problems return. The issue is that the Sat Nav also controls the voice commands.

I sent my unit away & had it repaired in the end Thumbs Up

i recently had trouble with mine, had trouble turning the key on, once i had got the key to the start position, nothing happened.
i had 12.4 volts with the ignition turned off.
i didnt know where to start, i thought the ignition switch was on its way out.
i decided to start with the battery leads, they looked ok but i had to start some where
i soaked the terminals in a tin of water and wiped the battery terminals with a wet rag
a day later, i put grease on the terminals and battery posts
i now had 12.3 volts
turned the key no problem and it started straight away
been ok since RR 2005 4.4 petrol
