No gps signal (new antenna fitted)

Hi
I had the red line through the gps icon on the sat Nav of my 2006 td6.So i searched and the general consensus was that it would be the antenna failed.
I’ve now fitted a new antenna and I’m still getting the red line through the gps icon ☹️

I’ve gone into the hidden menu but can’t see the satellite receiving screen?

Is there anything else it could be ??

Buy a cheap GPS puck with FAKRA connection off E*ay. Unplug connection at the sharkfin, connect puck and see if this works. If it does - faulty antenna indicated... but with option to mount the GPS puck and bypass the sharkfin entirely.

If this doesn't work, indication is that the fault is elswhere.

I went through exactly the same issue and found I had bought a faulty shark fin.

Thanks for the reply! I’ve already fitted a new shark Finn antenna and I’ve still got no gps signal I’m looking where else the problem can be ??????

You should be able to connect the FAKRA connector to the back of the unit as well, just in case that is easier for you.

The nav unit searches for satellites, connects and stores a list in memory. If this list is depleted due to not being able to connect to anything, it can take a while to build up the information. When I had issues with my shark fin I tested with a £5 ebay gps aerial and found that the shark fin really struggled to find any satellites, but the £5 ebay one was markedly better.

The original had likely been damaged by main dealer during a roof repaint, which was required thanks to paint damage done by Autoglass. (Such an annoying period of my ownership).

Eventually the shark fin aerial was replaced by the main dealer, but it took a long time for the GPS to settle down afterwards. I live in a wooded area, that doesn't help, and cloud cover doesn't help either. Initially it could take up to half an hour to get rid of the red strike through line on the GPS icon. This was incredibly unhelpful if I was in a strange city and needed to find my way home (furthest I have been is about 2000 miles from home in it). Now, after some a few weeks it connects almost instantaneously.

You can monitor satellite connections by entering the sat nav diagnostics using the 753 method on the sat nav screen.

If you are picking up satellites, and usually 3-5 are required, then at least you know your aerial is connecting as it should.

I had a similar experience when I changed the antenna on my RR. One thing to check, which might not be obvious, is that the satnav is still tuned to UK and has not defaulted to Belgium.

I found that mine had and I tuned it, to France in my case, did a reset and it started to work properly. It took a little time to settle down.

May not be the case with you but a quick check is easy. John
