Whats involved in checking the condition of the EGRs on a TDV8...? L322 2007 TDV8 3.6

I can't see that you can check the condition of them unless you remove them - so that you can inspect the valve heads for cracking or deterioration. Paul,

Unfortunately, there are another couple of EGR failure modes - not just "coking up" :

1st & mild fault, but quite common is that the electrical sensor that should check if the valve is opening correctly fails - causing the Engine Management Light to come on. This isn't a big deal other than it can then fail an MOT & if ignored, can hide more serious engine faults.

2nd & catastrophic fault is that the EGR valve head craks & breaks up, with parts being sucked into the engine intake, to be difested by the engine & turbos - causing major, very expensive & fatal engine damage. This is not so common, but I know 1 such failure personally & have seen it reported a few times too.

For the cost of an LR dealer checking the consition, it would be much better value to get an independant to replace both EGRs or have then deleted mechanically & in the engine software. Paul,
